My Three Things
It's an early morning edition today, so enjoySo Grant Gunnell has committed to Arizona A big congratulations should go to him. Grant has always been great to deal with and I believe he is one of the state's top talents. That said, I never thought we would see him back in Texas A&M's 2019 class and I am ok with that. The Aggies could see a big QB weekend on campus. Georgia standout Zach Calzada will be in town and the talk of Graham Mertz continues. New offer Brian Maurer has expressed a strong interest, and the Aggies have a tie to Jayden Daniels with his former Cajon teammate Jeremiah Martin now in College Station. Is it a clear cut picture? No, but there are options on the table, very good ones. Throw the numbers out the window I see the question on the board all the time as well as speculation of how much room the Aggies have. How many can we take at (name your position of choice)? Well, take what you know, or think you know, and throw it out the window because right now, those numbers sure are all over the place. The numbers will sort themselves out over time, but I could see certain scenarios where the Aggies take 6 DBs and 6 OLs in 2019. I could see scenarios where they take 2 RBs. I think they will grab a QB. DL is another that I believe could be a big group and WR is all over the place too. As I said above, most positions seem to be a moving target right now, and the number I have today will likely be very different come December. Over/Under 3 commitments this weekend In case you have missed it, this weekend will be a big one in Aggieland, and I am betting the Aggies land a few commitments. I'll put that number at 3 and I could see them hitting the over. The conservative tells me come in right at 3, but the gambler says the Aggies hit the over. I have always had a go big or go home mentality, so give me the over. I'll be particularly interested in what happens with the OL.

Ags set to host top QB target
I've received intel today that Overland Park (KS) QB and Wisconsin commit Graham Mertz will visit Texas A&M this summer. The visit has been in the works, but it sounds like it's close to being finalized and that Mertz has told some folks involved that he will be in College Station. I'm working to find the date.

Quarterback recruiting notes
Darrell Dickey has been scouring the region and country for guys he likes, and he's sent out offers in the last couple days to Eugene (OR) QB Michael Johnson Jr and to 2020 Houston Austin QB Malik Hornsby. Johnson's father is the WR coach at Oregon, and the Ducks are currently the odds on favorite to land him. Hornsby is an interesting story. Playing in HISD, he didn't receive a ton of attention until this offseason where his stock has skyrocketed. He's got connections to Aggieland, too. He plays for Texas Air Raid 7 on 7 which is based out of College Station. Lastly, I continue to hear the Ags will put the full court press on Kansas QB and Wisconsin commit Graham Mertz. It's sounding like they'll get a visit, as well.

Some more Sunday recruiting notes
-I've been told members of the A&M staff will be in San Antonio tomorrow to see DL commit DeMarvin Leal and possibly SA Jay QB Jacob Zeno. -A source with knowledge on Javonne Shepherd says he'll wait to make a decision after all his officials...this is a similar plan to Kenyon Green -Keep an eye on Dickinson TE Jalen Wydermyer. Folks down there talking like he may be getting close to a decision.-It sounds to me like A&M would take Andrew Coker and Blake Trainor and be pretty fired up about it. Trainor doesn't say much, but Coker has said he'd like to make a May decision.-At QB, I continue to hear the Aggies are still in pretty decent standing with Grant Gunnell. He visited Arizona this weekend, and we know the relationship he's got with Mazzone. However, if you're looking for another name under center that's getting some attention, it's Wisconsin commit Graham Mertz out of Kansas. -I'd call A&M and Nebraska the early top two for 2021 stud OL Hayden Conner.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
