Filling Up: Predicting Texas A&M's 2018 recruiting finish

Some Monday Recruiting Notes
I got a few notes on some linebackers.-Richland's DaShaun White does not have his visit to Oklahoma scheduled but look for it to take place in the next few weeks. He has already been in touch with Texas A&M since the end of the dead period and he does not have anything new scheduled right now. He has checked in at as much as 215-pounds this summer. -Fort Worth Nolan Catholic 2019 Nana Osafo-Mensah continues to have the Aggies high on his list, but he has not yet released his top schools. However, that may change around the start of the season, and the Aggies should feel good about where they are right now. He is also talking about maybe taking another visit to Texas A&M. The trip would be his third since June. Other visits he would like to take are Georgia and Notre Dame, and I have also heard a trip to Alabama could be in the works.-Frisco Lone Star's Nicholas Bolton is a prospect we have liked at TexAgs for awhile now. He gets knocked for his height (he's right at 6-foot and weighs 230-pounds), but he is a thumper and he is known as one of the smartest defenders in the Dallas-area. He plans to announce his commitment on July 24th, but before he announces he plans to attend Texas A&M's mini-camp on July 22nd. The A&M camp is currently the only college camp or college visit he has scheduled for July. Right now, it looks like he'll be choosing between Washington, Utah, and Mississippi State, but an A&M offer would get his attention. Here's a few clips I got of DaShaun White working out today. https://twitter.com/jason_howell/status/884532136795045888https://twitter.com/jason_howell/status/884532976670920704https://twitter.com/jason_howell/status/884534771736510465

Saturday recruiting notes
-Spoke with Clear Brook WR Caleb Chapman for a bit today. This kid is criminally underrated and will skyrocket up our next set of rankings. He told me he remains in consistent contact with the A&M coaches and has enjoyed both his visits to campus this summer for camp and the BBQ. The Aggie staff has been honest with him about their situation at receiver, and he appreciates that. He said they have told him that he's extremely high on their board and should some of their other offers/targets go elsewhere, he'd be in line for an offer shortly thereafter. Chapman said TCU, Nebraska, and Oregon are probably the three schools recruiting him the hardest right now. -We've discussed the depth at DE in the 2019 class, and one of the more well known names in Houston, Katy Taylor's Braedon Mowry, could be the next edge man to receive an A&M offer. He's more of a strong side end that's built similarly to a Julien Obioha. He's being heavily evaluated by the A&M staff. -Saw A&M Consolidated play College Station (Consol advanced with an 11 point win) in the quarterfinals today, and I came away confirming my thought that 2020 Consol WR Brian Darby is a future star. He was the best player on the field. His catch radius is amazing, and his ability to go get the football is a cut above the rest. To me, he's a no doubt 4 star WR. It won't be long before this kid is racking up offers. He was rocking the A&M gloves today as well.-Speaking of Consolidated, Oklahoma St commit Kolby Peel had a spectacular game as well. He's over 200 pounds and has an elite nose for a football. He's also super athletic and can move in space. One has to wonder with the Aggies searching for linebackers if Peel could get a look down the road. I had a high school coach tell me that if Peel had more tape playing in the box, he'd have offers from everyone in the region. Just something to keep an eye on...

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
