Profile
If Ivan Robinson arrives in College Station early and spends most of the summer with his future teammates and in the weight room, he might just be the first true freshman to see significant playing time on the defensive side of the ball.
At 6-4 and over 260 pounds, Robinson looks like a good fit to play defensive end in A&M's 3-4 defense. When you combine the Ags' lack of any proven depth at the position with Ivan's physical tools, it's not too difficult to see him emerging as an instant-impact player.
Cut from the same physical mold as former Aggie 3-4 defensive ends Brandon Mitchell and Rocky Bernard, Robinson is a strong, powerful and physical lineman but is also a fast-twitch athlete blessed with tremendous explosion, quickness and speed.
Though Ivan will most likely get his start at defensive end, he does have the type of frame that could eventually carry 300 pounds, which would allow him to slide inside if need be.
For now, Ivan is a much better run-stuffer than he is pass-rusher. He's very strong in the lower body and does a good job of controlling linemen, displacing blockers and making tackles. Throughout his career, Robinson simply didn't face many pass-happy offenses, so his opportunities to rush the passer were limited. Because of that, he's very raw when it comes to his pass-rush moves and techniques. Then again, if you give a college coach a 6-4, 260-plus pound athlete who plays hard, is fast enough to run the first leg on his track team's 4x100 relay and athletic enough to earn All-District honors on the hardwood, they'll turn him into a quality collegiate pass-rusher.
As a senior, Robinson was in on 94 tackles and registered 21 tackles for loss, 9 sacks and forced two fumbles. In '08, the three-time First Team All-Area pick tallied 96 stops, 10 TFL's and two sacks.

What They Are Saying
"First of all, Ivan is a good young man. He's the type of kid you want in your program. He brings some intangibles to the table that some people don't possess. When you're 6-4, 252-pounds and can run like he can, you just don't find that in many defensive linemen. Ivan really uses his hands well and he runs extremely well. You're talking about kid who runs a high 4.7 forty-yard dash. At 252 pounds, that's pretty impressive. He was the first leg on the 4 x 100 relay for us, and that should tell you a little bit about how well he can move. One thing about Ivan is that his motor never stops. We played him all over the place on the defensive line this year. He started at nose guard, and we moved him to tackle. Then there were some games that we moved him to defensive end. We put him wherever we felt we needed to stop somebody. If the play was on the opposite side of the field, he would make the tackle a lot of the time. He's a great player that I've been fortunate enough to coach the last four years. He's the kind of player you really can't replace, with his work ethic and the way he runs to the ball. He's such an athlete. When we put Ivan inside, he was double and triple teamed constantly and he would still make the tackle. He's also a good tight end. We used him a little there, but we wanted to rest him and not overuse him. Without a doubt, Ivan Robinson could have been a top notch tight end prospect. He's got huge hands. When you shake his hand, you are just in awe of how massive his hands are. He can play on both sides of the ball." - South Beauregard head coach Shawn DeMeritt.
"Robinson is a kid who displays on film a good sized and thick frame with a nice wingspan. We feel he is best suited for the defensive tackle position in college. He should be able to add some more bulk to help in the trenches though he looks a little bigger then his listed 260. He has a solid get-off. He is a physical player who can be tough versus the run. Displays the ability to take on a blocker and derive power from his lower body and displays the ability to be able to take on half-a-man and get into gap. While he can be physical at the point of attack he needs to be more consistent in his technique. He can tend to get tall and almost hop out of his stance at times and needs to continually stay low and use his lower body power as that is when he is at his best. He is adequate with his hands though you would like to see him use that reach more to create separation. He is a solid tackler. Moves adequately in pursuit and displays a solid motor. At this point he looks best versus the run. He flashes the tools when he stays low to be able to bull rush his way back." - ESPN/Scouts Inc.
