Profile
Along with Cayuga's Malcome Kennedy, Clay Honeycutt is one of the two most versatile Aggie signees. At 6-2, 195 pounds, Honeycutt's size, athleticism and 4.55 speed could lead to a future at any of several positions, including QB, WR, Safety or even OLB. Like Ryan Tannehill, Honeycutt has the toughness, football savvy, skill and mentality to succeed on either side of the ball in the Big 12.

Also like Tannehill, Honeycutt will get his start at quarterback. As both a sophomore and junior, Clay began the season catching passes before taking over for eventual Baylor signee Brody Trahan prior to the playoffs. In other words, Honeycutt is relatively inexperienced under center but has flashed loads of potential as a quarterback. As a sophomore, Clay passed for 1,193 yards and 13 TD's versus 8 interceptions and led the Gators on a deep 4A playoff run. He finished his junior season with 1,216 yards and 10 TD's on 85-of-181 passing as Dickinson advanced in the 5A playoffs before falling to eventual state champion Katy.

An early enrollee, Honeycutt finally took over as the full-time starter as a senior but played behind a rebuilt offensive line. Nevertheless, Clay assumed the role of team leader and put together a 24-5A First Team All-District season, passing for 1,504 yards on 119-of-219 passing. He threw nine touchdowns versus eleven picks but found a way to beat defenses by totaling 934 yards and 13 TD's on the ground.
What They Are Saying
"He's a good athlete, with excellent hands, and is a smart kid. I personally think he's going to be a receiver. I think he could be a good possession receiver. He was an excellent leader for us. He came in and was the back-up quarterback for a few years, and then took over and did an excellent job. He's a quality kid and a good individual. They've got a good kid. I'm an Aggie so I'm glad he's going to A&M." - Dickinson head coach Warren Trahan.

The thing I'm looking forward to the most, I think, is just the opportunity to come in and learn and receive coaching from some of the best coaches out there, who knows how to help you prepare for the next level. Regardless of what position it is, I'm just looking forward to seeing how far I can go and how good I can become with such good instructors." - Clay Honeycutt.
