Profile
When talking about upside potential, Matt Joeckel has to rank near the top of this year's Aggie class. The 6-4, 220-pounder committed to A&M during the spring of his junior year, choosing the Aggies over very early offers from Texas Tech, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Houston, Minnesota and Baylor. At the time of his pledge, Matt was considered an up-and-coming prospect.
Then came a superb summer that was followed by a phenomenal senior season that saw Joeckel lead the Colts deep into the 5A playoffs. During the off-season, Matt honed his skills while working with none other than Aggie legend Kevin Murray. He was outstanding at the state 7-on-7 tournament in July and looked more and more impressive each time he attended an A&M camp session. The improvement continued and the hard work paid off this past fall, as Joeckel established himself as one of, if not the, best quarterback prospects in Texas.
As a senior, the 4-5A Offensive Player of the Year was 235-of-354 for 3,145 yards. He threw 40 touchdowns versus just six interceptions and added 733 yards and 12 TD's on the ground.
Joeckel is a drop-back passer deluxe, making him the perfect fit for the Aggie offense. At 6-4 and already starting to fill out his sturdy frame, he has prototype size and his arm strength is off the charts. In addition to being able to deliver all of the throws on-time and with pinpoint accuracy, Matt is a much better athlete than advertised and can make things happen with his legs.
Joeckel chose A&M following a breakout junior season during which he earned Class 5A Honorable Mention All-State and 4-5A Co-MVP honors. As a junior, Joeckel threw for 3,017 yards and 29 TD's (versus just six interceptions) on 209-of-363 passing. He added 328 yards and 9 TD's on 115 carries.

What They Are Saying
"Matt is the best leader I've ever coached. Going back to elementary school, he's always run everything. His teammates respond to him well and he knows how to win football games. When a big play needed to be made in a game, he made it. He was going to do whatever it took to get us down the field. He can make every throw in the book. He's got a strong arm and is extremely accurate. He makes a lot of receivers a lot better football players because of the way he puts the ball on them. He's really worked hard on his feet. I think his feet are certainly good enough to play at the college level. He throws an amazing ball. He's got a style to him kind of like Tim Tebow. We got better as an offense when we started running the ball tackle-to-tackle with him and letting him drop his shoulder and play power football." - Arlington head coach Scott Peach.
"I'm ready to show what I have. I'm ready to show that I'm a hard worker and that I'm ready and willing to get out there and compete. That's what A&M is all about -- competing -- and that's what I'm ready for. I'm looking forward to just playing football ... just strapping on the pads and getting after it." - Matt Joeckel.
