Profile
The 6-6, 285-pounder has the physical tools and the mental make-up to be an All-Big 12 offensive lineman at A&M. In all honesty, Luke Joeckel could be even better than that.

A tall, powerful tackle with great footwork for a young man his size, Joeckel is a versatile o-line signee who excels in both pass protection and as a run blocker. He's the complete package and comes to A&M as one of the most highly-regarded blockers to sign with the Ags this decade.

Blessed with a quick first step and pass set, tremendous reach and anticipation plus a powerful punch, Luke has spent his career protecting his brother's blindside. As a result, he understands and embraces the importance of keeping the quarterback's jersey clean better than most.

Luke is not only an outstanding pass blocker but is also a true finisher when paving the way in the running game. He has a nasty streak and routinely engulfs linebackers before planting them into the ground.

Joeckel, whose father played the same position at Texas Tech, ultimately chose A&M over Oklahoma and also held offers from Alabama, LSU, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Arkansas. Following a Second Team All-State and First Team All-Area senior season, Luke was ranked as the 6th-best offensive tackle in the nation by ESPN.com and was chosen to play in the Under Armour All-American Game.

Joeckel will have an excellent shot to be the first member of the Class of 2010 to earn a starting job at A&M. After all, the Ags lost three starters along the offensive line, including both tackles. Furthermore, Luke won't be your typical true freshman o-lineman. He's already enrolled in school and on campus and will have spent six months in the weight room and gone through a full spring football season by the time fall camp begins.
What They Are Saying
"I personally feel like Luke will be the starting tackle for A&M next year. I think with his tools, and if he stays healthy, he will be an NFL left tackle. I think he's that type of football player. The thing that makes Luke so special is that he has a true edge about him that I've never coached before. What I mean by edge is that he's a great kid that plays the game right, but he plays the game nasty. That edge is not something you can coach. You either have it or you don't, and he has it." - Arlington head coach Scott Peach.

"Joeckel only needs time to get stronger in both the upper and lower body to develop into a very good player. Possesses agility, foot quickness and the ability to mirror laterally." - ESPN recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton.
