You're not that bright, your parents have the money and they were smart enough to not allow you to attend technical

What he said or you are a small town SBC kid. Especially if your dad is a SBC pastor, b/c then it isn't that expensive.

I went because the undergraduate engineering program was ranked higher than A&Ms, and I got a great scholarship there. My parents aren't rich or even wealthy by any stretch of the imagination (using US standards), and I was in the top 10% of my class, so entry to A&M and UT was automatic. I decided between Northwestern, Baylor and Washington University in St. Louis. Obviously my decision wasn't based on sports.

Smaller class sizes. Religious background. Academic reputation (the same as A&M's btw). Better looking women. Etc.

I wouldn't have stepped foot on the A&M campus for an undergraduate education. I possibly would have for graduate school.

ummm... your undergraduate engineering program isn't ranked higher than A&M's. In fact, your undergraduate engineering program isn't even ranked.

See U.S. news and world report and Princeton Review.

WHAT RANKING HAD BAYLOR'S ENGINEERING RANKED OVER A&M'S???????

I considered A&M for a long time, really wanted to go there since ~5th grade, but my senior year decided I didn't want to go anymore.

It's funny because my wife grew up wanting to go to Baylor, and I grew up wanting to go to A&M. I ended up at Baylor, and she at A&M. She's a third generation Ag, so it's not that big of a surprise for her.

I doubt that A&M was included in Baylor's group:

Baylor University's engineering program climbed impressively to rank as the nation's 14th best in the 2005 edition of America's Best Colleges, compiled by U.S.News & World Report. This is up five spots over last year when Baylor's program was ranked 19th, and an increase of 12 places over 2001, when Baylor ranked 26th in the prestigious U.S. News listing of undergraduate engineering courses without doctoral programs.

Baylor is ranked highest of the four Texas schools included in the survey, which is confined to 145 programs accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Baylor is tied at 14th nationwide with five other schools.

"I am very pleased that we have moved up five places in the rankings," said Dr. Benjamin S. Kelley, dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science and professor of engineering. "It is an excellent recognition of our accomplishments and a fine tribute to the initiative of our faculty, students and staff. We are looking forward to even greater accomplishments and to continued national recognition of our faculty and students."

Overall, the U.S. News Best Colleges survey places Baylor 84th out of 248 top national doctoral-granting universities included in the rankings. Other Texas schools highly placed in the rankings include Rice University (17th place), University of Texas-Austin (tied for 46th), Texas A&M University (tied for 62nd) and Southern Methodist University (tied for 71st). Texas Christian University is tied for 98th place.

Because they got some good press they didn't deserve .. very obvious the first week of classes.

Only took a few weeks to wise up and transfer to A&M next semester in a hurry. Of course attending every home A&M game all the semester I was at Baylor.

Because there is more to choosing your college than how good its football team is. That's my guess.

or the town it's located

or the expense

or the quality of the school's leadership

or the quality of the education

Girls go to Baylor because their fathers don't want them marrying Aggies.

Why guys go there - that I can't tell you.

For every random kid that choose Baylor over A&M and Texas, there's 4 or 5 that went to Baylor that had no choice between Baylor and one of the two flagships.

That ranking is colleges without doctoral programs. How can you compare that rank to A&M's? Engineering programs with doctoral programs are much different and more advanced than ones without them.

Just speaking from firsthand experience, in the 5 years I was in public accounting when I worked with folks from every school from the old SWC, the male BU grads were the goofiest F's of them all. by a mile. As scary as this sounds, give me a Tech grad anyday. the girls on the other hand were fairly normal and several were quite hot.
MW_111
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Stonana, you are correct. That same year, US News had A&M's engineering program ranked 14th among schools WITH doctoral programs.

I hate academic smack.

Baylor has a place. While it may not Rice, it does offer someone a pretty good private school option. The campus is pretty. If you are a devout Christian, it has a little more spiritual bent than most places. I have a cousin who went there - he went to a private high school, he was very smart (valedictorian of a very small class), but not really outgoing / party guy. He loved Baylor. Good for him.

Not everyone bases their decision on a US News ranking. There are others factors - - if you think teh other students are more like you then you have a match.

So $ for $ is A&M or Texas a better value? Yes.
Is there a better nightlife in Austin, even College Station. Yes
Are there better athletic programs? Yes.
But can you get a good educationand have a good four years. Sure.

That said I never will forget going to a party in Waco (after we beat them that day. Had a few friends there). Some girl was there berating me because I chose A&M engineering over Baylor. And how Baylor was so much better, blah blah. This was 1989. Their program was two years old I think? Honestly, i just wanted to chill at a party and this girl was non-stop about Baylor engineering. I will never forget it.

Bottom line, let people make their own choices, they have their reasons, even if you disagree.

HAHA, you just owned that stupid Cub! Seriously, Baylor's Engineering & Business Schools don't come close to touching A&M's. Nobody outside the state of Texas even knows who or what the hell Baylor is.

Jock, once you get out of the state of Texas, for the unwashed masses it's tu and maybe Rice. Not saying it's fair, but it is a fact.

Well, it was on my daughter's short list--but was her final cut.

Small classes and a strong music program were the draws. At the time A&M did not even offer a music degree and still does not have a sting program to my knowledge. Both Baylor and TCU offered her violin scholarships, SMU a leadership scholarship, but the best deal--largest scholarship offer was at TCU.

Many want religious studies, and for those Baylor is the logical choice.
