Came in to buy a 4" Kimber ultra

Colt has me guessing

I had an Ultra Carry II in black. The finish scratched and showed wear pretty easily. Go stainless finish if you choose Kimber

Love my kimber ultra crimson. I like the 3" be aide it's my carry gun year around. But you can't go wrong with either.

I also like the warrior too. Sweet colors and has a rail.

Kimber. x100. The quality of a Kimber over a Colt isn't even close. This is coming from someone that has owned multiple 1911's made by both gun makers.

Colt quality is not what it used to be. Between labor difficulties with the unions and their own arrogance, Colt has gone downhill in the last couple of decades. I have a long story exlplaining it better but I'm watching football right now and don't have that long.

I have a pre-1994 gold cup, a tricked out colt ipsc pistol, & have seen several issues with kimbers to the point I will not trust one. My favorite1911 is my Sig Sauer scorpion. It has a ton of features for the $ & runs the best & has a rail.

The Gold Cup is their top of the line handgun and some Law Enf that carry 1911's do carry them. It being pre 1994 is a plus. However I wouldn't compare a tricked out ipsc to anything bought off of the shelf regardless of who makes it because it's not comparing apples to apples.

For what this guy is trying to buy, which appears to be a compact/concealed carry 1911. Kimber is all over Colt.

The tough part for the OP is that it's much harder to find Colts vs Kimbers. I have both - cant go wrong w either.

In that price range, a Springfield is the best quality for the money, but to answer the OP, go ahead with the Kimber. Unless you're looking to spend a good bit more, in which case I'd say Colt, the Kimbers are probably the most consistant.

The smaller barrel 1911's are fun but I finally decided that a true commander sized 4 3/4" is as small as I need to go.

The same can be said for Kimber. The quality and customer service has gone downhill since the Series 2 was released. Ron Cohen junked the brand just like he's been doing with Sig recently.

I'm guessing the OP isn't st the gun store anymore. What was the final decision.

I'm not really a 1911 guy, but one of the guns on my list of guns to own is a nice Kimber 1911.

I'm getting ready to take my CHL and wanted smaller frame 1911 but I couldnt pass onthe DD. Looks good with my OD springer

I personally like those more than Kimbers, but that's just me.

Well done. Love my V5. I went with an Ed Brown 1911 though. But Brown doesn't make 3" models.

how do you like shooting that UC II? I have the Custom Covert, but I'm thinking about getting a Ultra Covert for my CC.

Lots of fun to shoot, and I would stick with the 3" if you are going to carry. I might bump it up to 4" if I had to do it over since I don't carry it. My wife loves to shoot it as well.

I had this exact same problem. I was a little surprised since Kimber is supposed to be of such high quality.

IMO, the length of the barrel has less to do with concealment and comfort as does the length/shape of the grip and the weight.

Kimber (along with other manufactures) do make an aluminum officer framed 4" 1911's which are nice. You get a better sight radius with a lower profile, light weight package.

I bagged on the 1911 as I spent all day looking at EBR stuff for the AR I bought.

Will probably just run the CHL course with my standard 1911A1.

I'm still in the market and will probably wait until after I get my CHL and shoot the 3" and 4" before I decide. I've kind of talked myself out of the 3" though.

I own several Colts and a Kimber and they all get the job done. I gravitate to the Colts everytime. EDC is a Colt Defender that is rock solid reliable. I read quite a few complaints about Kimbers but that is probably because they sell so many more units on an annual basis.
