8:54 am on August 31, 2012 | PermalinkSubscribers of AT&T U-Verse woke up this morning to the Longhorn Network, a major win for the ESPN brainchild that has been mostly a mystery since its launch August of 2011.

It can be seen on channel 1609, for those who have U-Verse. As of 9:00 a.m., representatives for neither ESPN, the University or AT&T U-Verse had issued any sort of statement regarding the agreement.

The Longhorn Network went unseen by many over the course of a year, appearing only on Grande, Verizon FiOS and a handful of smaller cable providers. While University of Texas campus dorms carry Grande, it is not available in other parts of campus or Austin. On the other hand, AT&T U-Verse is available in 22 U.S. states and has added more TV subscribers in the last three years than any other major cable TV provider, according to an Aug. 29 press release.

Two Longhorns football games will be broadcast exclusively on the Longhorn Network this season — Saturday’s contest against Wyoming and then next week’s game against New Mexico.

800-288-2020, take the tech support option and complain that there is no way to block the channel. request that they open an investigation to resolution for that, if enough ppl call in there will be movement. I actually overheard another rep mention LHN while on the phone with another customer, so it seems its driving some volume right now.

If you are happy with service otherwise, why not call them and work on getting credit so you don't have to pay for LHN.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face if you can get AT&T to pay for it. Just my thoughts though.

I don't have Uverse but certainly would not be paying for it if I did.

Directv, all channels for 54/month the first year, 70/month the second year.

Its one channel. I am keeping them b/c I like them better than DTV/Dish.

Not sure why its a big deal. I will prob watch some of their games like I do everyone else.

The problem I see is that ESPN will be putting other games on other that are not picked up by the Big ESPN stations.

And when Time Warner, Direct TV, Cox, and Dish pick it up I have some rabbit ears for you foolish souls.

Face it they have won again.

I plan on calling and either going to time warner or getting them to cut my bill by $20-30. My wife thinks I am crazy. I think she might be on to something.

Anyone notice one of the rotating adds at the bottom of the screen is for AT&T Uverse?

The bigger question is what penetration does Uverse have?

The LHN was at around 2.1 % market penetration before this deal. Does anybody know what the number will be now? I agree about cutting your nose off but there is no way you should pay for a channel you do not want. Either have them pay for it (you get it free) , or credit your bill every month for having to have it. If it costs money for them to provide it that will have the greater effect in them dropping it.

I intend to write a STRONGLY worded letter to Uverse over this matter. This is NOT acceptable and they need to know why. I mean, how dare they pick up a fully funded sports programming channel without my approval? It's ridiculous!

I get my cellular service through AT&T. Told them I'd be canceling and switching to Cricket.

But cricket doesn't support iPhones. So I'm kinda stuck here. Might have to go Android.

I heard a rumor that UTx was subsidizing the cost. I wonder if there's any truth to that.

So, if subscribers themselves pay extra in order to receive the channel or if the horn administration pays, it doesn't bother me too much.

because none of my hard earned dollars will go into the t.u. coffers. Why don't some of you just go ahead and set up an auto-debit account to give t.u. $1 every month. How does that feel?

I could definitely see a state-funded institution spending money to get ATT Uverse to carry an ESPN-owned property.

For whoever said that the sips "won", I would hardly call it a win.

1. It was laughable and embarrassing that it took this long for 1 "major" carrier to pick it up

2. It caused the breakup of the Big 12, leaving it on life-support with lesser replacements

3. It relegated the Big 12 to "also-ran" status among the big conferences, well behind the conferences that picked up the defectors

4. It made the sips a national pariah that no conference would want or take


Not exactly winning.

I called today to lower my rate, and they did. $50/mo extra in my pocket. I could give a f less if my provider carries lhn. It doesn't mean that I have to watch it. I have too many other things to worry about.

If Time Warner is unwilling to bend the knee to the NFL Network its extremely doubtful they would do the same with LHN.

You can fight against the success of others or you can fight for your own. LHN is small beans compared to what's coming down the pike for SEC teams. Even if these numbers are overestimated, the potential is substantial.
