How long do you want to ignore this user?
From an ESPN report:
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/florida/post?id=3398#more

quote:

ESPNU Watch List quarterback Kohl Stewart (Houston, Texas/St. Pius X) verbally committed to Texas A&M in July 2011, and his commitment is still firm. However, it doesn’t hurt to look at other options.

Florida is the latest to entertain Stewart, and the 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback described his new offer with one word in particular.

“Huge,” Stewart said Tuesday.

IN the story, talks about the developing relationship between Stewart and the UF coaches (OC and Muschamp) as well as the he will probably take a spring or summer visit. Says he is taking the process slow to make sure he makes the right decision. This includes weekly talks with the UF OC.

So, what does committed actually mean?

If he's hedging his bets, we should hedge ours and offer Cody Thomas. This is why super early offers are a bad idea. Unrealistic to expect a guy to avoid visits for 2.5 years and this stuff undermines the staff and lets other commits think about taking visits.

and don't start bagging on the kid. He commited to Sherm when he was 15, this is what happens. We just need to start looking for plan B and hope that Kohl makes the right decision.

This far out from NSD and we are already having commits looking around? Furk...

So I take this to mean he might be leaning towards us, but is not committed. You don't say offers from another team are "Huge" when you are committed. After last few years of guys taking visits "just for fun" then switching, a commitment is nothing more than interest in a school until you sign.

Wyoag, he was not 15. At least 16. No need to exaggerate.

Here is the article - we have to stop this guy from visiting Florida. Doens't sound positive as far as the strenght of his commitment.

ESPNU 150 Watch List quarterback Kohl Stewart (Houston, Texas/St.

An offer from one of the SEC’s elite programs would put excitement in any big-time recruit, and it’s one that Stewart said he will look into. While he is still sold on A&M, he said he is listening to what Florida offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brent Pease, his primary recruiting contact, has to say.

Stewart said he has built a budding relationship with both Pease and head coach Will Muschamp. He said he hopes to take a visit to Gainesville, Fla., during the spring or summer.

“We’ve gotten a lot closer over the last few weeks,” Stewart said of Pease. “He’s been straightforward about everything, so it’s easy to see where he comes from. We talk on a weekly basis.

“It [Florida] is just such a nationally recognized program in a college town. It’d be a fun place to play.”

Stewart has offers from Texas A&M, Florida, Ole Miss, Notre Dame and SMU. While many are asking if he’s going to stick with his commitment, he said everything will depend on how relationships with new Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff continue to improve. He committed to the Aggies when Mike Sherman was head coach.

“I just have to get to know the guys,” he said of the Aggies. “I’m trying to take everything as slowly as possible and really make the best decision.”

All we need to do is have a solid 2012 and win our bowl game and we won't have any decommits.

No reason for alarm, folks. Anytime 100% of the coaches turnover, recruits will look around, particularly at a position like QB where a different HC/OC makes a huge difference. Sumlin may decide he wants a different style of QB, similar to his Slanina decision. Our coaches are motivated to get the best personnel for their system so the team is positioned to succeed. Their future @ A&M will be determined in 3 years of SEC wins versus losses. No reason for alarm, stay positive.

Lots of speculation and conjecture here. Any kid would be stoked to get a Florida offer. He hasn't even said whether he'll visit yet. Plus, Muschump's offense was pretty dull last year, when he sees the wide open and great potential of Sumlin's attack he'll be even more solid.

Trust in Coach Sumlin.

I would say this is more on the athlete for committing so early...

DGB had offers as a freshman... And instead of flipping around... He waited until he was ready... But it was also important to devolpe those relationships as it was one if the reasons he chose mizzou

Sure not everyone has as much impact/time to be waited on but kohl wasn't going to lose a spot by waiting when he was a junior.

Eh, we don't need him anyways. His throwing motion is bad and he's undersized. These private school kids look like beasts in HS but fall apart in college. If I were Sumlin I'd pull his offer for looking around.
AnalogyAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I seriously think this is one situation where Sumlin should pull the offer.
When a kid makes a point of saying he committed to a prior staff and new guys will have to win him over, and then goes goo-goo over another school's offer....

Sumlin should say, "look, we'd love to have you, and I hope someday you really will commit to us, but we both know you aren't committed right now, and frankly I don't think its fair to either of us to pretend like you are."

At some point, you have to have some respect and confidence you can sign who/what you need. Quality QBs have been our strongsuit for about 7 years now.

edit- make that about 10yrs

You're an absolute idiot if you think we should pull his offer. I don't know why I still post on this site sometimes, but wow.

If you were 17 years old and your SR season and A&M's first season in the SEC were months away (let's set aside that he committed to Sherman's staff and not Sumlin) and Florida just dropped an offer on you, would you not at least talk to the coaches, keep a dialogue? You'd be a fool not to. Boggles my mind why folks are dumbfounded about this.

Surely you're smarter than this. Goo-goo equals putting another feather in his cap and being excited a program like that offered him? To any 17 year old athlete in the country, being offered by Florida is exciting. That's significant. Would the only acceptable response be "UF offered...eff em"?? He's going to be offered by other prestigious programs before it's over too. I dont know why I waste my time here, but keep things in perspective Ags.

IMO, seems like these kids commit early, then get a little too used to the thought of playing at A&M and start thinking the grass is greener.

He made a COMMITMENT to attend A&M. If he's not going to live up to his obligations then we should pull his offer. He can look around then all he wants. An offer is a privilege, not a gift. Damn new army.

Sounds great in theory - but few schools are really in a position to try and lean on higher rated players. It's THE big issues with early recruiting and hard to overcome. As is often quoted on this board - the bigger the dog, the longer the leash.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm not that worried. Honestly, he's a better fit at Floriday anyway. We are stacked with athletic quaterbacks that can run the spead and get yardage on their feet. Kohl is not this--he is more of a pocket passer. Florida typically has pocket passers as quarterbacks--Brantley, Wuerfel, Grossman, etc. Tebow was an exception. Kohl's talents would be wasted with us as we are moving in a different direction. Muschamp can really exploit Kohl's strengths. Look at it this way: you wouldn't ask Lyle Lovett to sit in and play with Rage Against the Machine, but he might be a good fit with Lady Antebellum. In this analogy, we are Rage Against the Machine, Florida is Lady Antebellum and Kohl is Lyle Lovett.

So the one real QB that Sumlin mentored and developed on his own - would you classify him as an accurate pocket passer with some decent scrambling ability of more of an "athletic" dual-threat type you reference?
Gigem713
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sumlin's (limited) past does not match up with the talent he has on the squad now. Matt Davis, Manziel and Showers are not pocket quarterbacks. Joekel is, but he is in the minority. Plus, bringing in the qb from tech to run our offense makes me think that is the direction we are headed.
