I'm going to guess that Sumlin, Mack, Briles and Tuberville probably know more depth of info on Texas kids than most other programs: 1) Those in other areas have those other areas to focus on a lot, and 2) Other coaches in Texas probably don't have the resources or money to research and recruit as much as these four, and may or may not have the connections to maximize their time and effort.
I'd say the same thing for Miles in Louisiana, and Petrino in Arkansas, etc. Therefore, I'm more prone to trust Sumlin's early offers, especially with Texas having limited schollie numbers this year.
Hey, if it's true that Texas only has 13 schollies for 2013, shouldn't they be almost done with 11 guys? I know they can gray-shirt some guys, and then some Longhorns got pissy with me last week, insisting that they'll have closer to 20, as if I'd insulted or slighted their program with my 13 number that I got from Longhorn sources, for cryin' out loud.
I've seen 'em play since way back when
And they've always had the grit.
I've seen 'em lose and I've seen 'em win
But I've never seen 'em quit.
