What are the total commits for Florida?... I couldn't imagine any team having more total number of commits than us at this point.

Is that 10 in the ESPN 150 or 10 total?

Sorry to burst anybody's bubble, but these are just ESPN 150 watchlist guys. There's probably about 300-500 on the watchlist right now, and they'll cull the list later this year. Still a big honor and still these are great pickups, but just know that ESPN hasn't even got down to their 150 yet.

TexasTide-

This is an interesting thread, thanks for posting.

I don't follow ESPN recruiting much, but I'm going to bet we (Ags) haven't had 7 in the top 150 in a while, a year before signing day no less.

I tend to trust the coaches eval. A guy like Yates has developed some serious DB talent over the years. Nonetheless, I think it's very interesting to see how our recruits rate on lists like this.

I think it's a step in the right direction.

And Florida is just killing it right now.

i fear the dreaded talk of 'stars,' but generally watch list guys turn into 4+ star guys

Ah, I see. Was definitely curious about that as I was doing my research. I just wanted to give everyone an idea about where this class stacks up on a national scale and how many of the 13 guys are "elites"

I'm sure a lot is going to unfold between now and next year's signing day. The football team needs to get some wins, Sumlin & Co. need to keep the recruiting offensive going, and most importantly, especially after the summer...play defense with these guys. I expect A&M to catch a few more big guys but I also expect some of these guys to flip, the key is to keep the flippers down (and away from team's we will play) and get more guys to flip to your team; that is just the nature of the game nowadays.

For the record I'm a big proponent of player development (good coaching, strength and conditioning, and playing the best in practice and in games) than just acquiring as many stars as possible. After all Florida is leading the rankings and they were disappointing last year while Oklahoma State and Baylor had break out years with non-highly rated players.

Just curious to see where this class ranks in the grand scheme of things. Nice to know, especially after this last year, that we can still recruit and pull with the big boys.

Tide,

Didn't mean to sound like a downer. I appreciate you compiling all of the info and livening up the recruiting board. It's looking to be a good year, and I like the pace Sumlin is setting.

Yes, lets keep in mind these are watch list guys, not the top 150. I can't believe that James White isn't on the watch list though. that dude is killer.

What's the story with this Nick Ramirez kid? ILB out of Lees Summit, MO. Has us in his list of interest but no offer. Kid looks like he can play and we need some ILB's.

We've got 8. Ishmael Wilson is a 150 watchlist guy too
Texas Tide

I'm tempted to keep track of the watchlist in its entirety so we aren't splitting hairs between 150 and 151 and worrying about biases. After all if a school gets player #151 that is a good pick up regardless

@atfarmer I didn't see him on the ESPN list and it was updated to include Gustafson as well so is there a link or something i'm missing?

Ditto, Sumlin is putting together a monster class. If we can get a few more defensive blue chippers on board, we'll be laying a great foundation.

Question to the committee: is James White a 150 player? He wasn't listed but I've seen him called a top 150 player on blogs?

The other side of this list is interesting also. Where are OU and Nebraska? Is there less pressure to commit in other states or is there a big change going on?

That makes some sense when the SEC has more commitments at the moment than the other 5 AQ conferences COMBINED.

They are, and they had a great class last year, too. Michigan and Texas are doing great also....Michigan has 8 of 11 guys on that list as it's currently constituted, and Texas has an even better percentage with 5 of 5.

I've seen 'em play since way back when
And they've always had the grit.
I've seen 'em lose and I've seen 'em win
But I've never seen 'em quit.

Agreed. I like to look at what James Franklin (Vandy), Bill Snyder, Mike Gundy and Bobby Petrino have done with their supposedly "non-stellar" recruiting classes. You've got to have the horses to win big, but great coaching gets you more out of your players and team than somebody else will get with more "star talent."
