Take it for what it is worth but a buddy of mine from La Tech told me that we are in the process of adding them to our 2012 schedule. He said 2012 in Shreveport and then back at Kyle. No link, just word of mouth and he seems to be in the know at La Tech.

I'll take that game over FSU or OU. Now we need one more

Why the f do we have to play nonconference home and home?

I am still puzzled as to why we have to play at smu.

Doubt we'd play AT La. Tech, other than that sounds pretty believable

If we picked up La Tech, it would be for the 9/22 game and that would mean the La Tech would have to back out of their game with Illinois.

They have leverage right now and that'd be a big draw for them. I'd believe it.

Looks like La Tech has an open date on 13 October.

I doubt we would ever play in Ruston. I guess if you have to play an OOC game away from Kyle, winning some cash in Shreveport doesn't hurt.

Also open in Nov.... I prefer that one.

We could also try to buy the Rice game from UTSA on Oct 13th...

We're in a bit of a tough spot, so playing at a ooc school wouldn't shock me.

We are not going to play either of those two games away from Kyle.

We can $$ whip someone into coming to Kyle.

I could also see USF coming now that the big east teams have to replace WVU on the schedule.

La Tech doesn't have any open dates left that they can schedule on OOC game. If they pick up the Ags, they would have to back out of the Illinois game. They have 6 OOC games already schedule for the first 6 weeks and they have 6 WAC conference games that will be scheduled with in the 7 weeks starting 10/13.

I could see a two for one here...two home, one away. That wouldn't be shocking given our need to fill the schedule. La Tech is at least respectable.

Well, Sumlin does have a lot of experience playing @ La Tech. He engineered a come-from-behind victory there just last year. Get the 'dubya', Coach!

Every year ags should host txst. Easy win, only 2 hour drive for a 35,000 enrollment FBS university.

Why u guys want LTech half the size and 4 x the travel distance is beyond me.

A healthy rotation of UTSA and TXST would make a good opener for the ags.

At this point we don't have much choice. If La.Tech wants H and H I'm sure Byrne is more willing to do that than blow a mil on a one time nonconference opponent.

Playing La Tech is fine. I also like the idea of playing TX State now that they are a FBS school.

We'd play 2 FCS teams at home before we had 5 homers and 8 road games (or 7 road 1 neutral, regardless 8 non-home games). No chance in hell we play any of the two TBD non-con games on the road...

We have given LaTech a home game before, only it was in Shrevport. I'm ok with playing them, but I don't see them having the home game in '12. We are the ones that need a home game in 2012.

If I remember correctly, I think we were still arranging the Ark series when we scheduled SMU. We wanted a game in D/FW again.

Anybody we add to the schedule for 2012 will have to come to Kyle. We only have 4 true home games right now.

Home/Shreveport with LaTech only makes financial sense for us if they give us 15-20k tickets to sell.

As for the SMU thing, the thinking was probably that a game at their stadium would play more like a neutral site because the stadium holds about 40k, and we could count on a third to a half being our fans.

That logic is stupid though, as seen from the baylor games. baylor always played more fired up against us, because it was the only time the stadium filled up, and the atmosphere was always more intense then their other games (this year excepted). The braintrust must have also thought that SMU fans would buy a bunch of tickets. Which is also false, since SMU fans are bigger vajeens then baylor's.

The bottom line is that we need to radically redo the future games we hav scheduled.

We need to dump:
-@SMU in 2014, which probably means we have to dump them at Kyle in 2013, or make them move the game in DFW back to 2015

-The game @USC needs to be played in 2015, or moved to another odd year

-The game at Oregon in 2018 needs to be moved forward to 2017, back to 2019, or dumped

We already play 5 away SEC games in even years (including @bama, @auburn, @SCar), which means we cannot play another game away, unless the SEC changes its scheduling framework. That must inform how we schedule going forward. If $B cannot wrap his mind around this concept, he must be put out to pasture.

Every SEC schedule would be 4 home / 4 away. The only reason you are reading it differently is because they have our home game with Arkansas TBD right now for 2012.

I'm pretty sure that the SMU series was a 2 for 1 with this being the only road game in 2012.

Pretty sure we played there 10-15 years ago

Wow, the schedule is looking pretty brutal. SMU and LaTech are not bad teams, both went 8-5 last year. We are facing 9 teams that went to bowl games (Ole Miss did not, McNeese St is FCS), 7 of which won them (LSU, LaTech lost). And we still have another game to add.

We played in Shreveport in 1999. Don't think we've played in Ruston.

Folks, we are not playing USC. That series was dropped a while back.

It looks like agsuffering gets it.

Scheduling college football games is not easy to turn on a dime, especially when you dont know who is going to be in the conference, how many teams will be in the conference, enough home/away games, how much it costs to get out of already contracted games (fee/lawsuits), moving contracted games from neutral sites, balancing non-FBS schools on schedule, etc.....

I know it has been popular to bash the Horns for not scheduling the Ags the day after they announce for the SEC. You will live/watch others live (WV/FSU, etc...) the pain in the ass of scheduling.

Chicken Ranch is correct; the next time we play USC will be in Columbia.

Also, we have never played La Tech in Ruston; we have played them in Shreveport only.
