Well I have come to the point of admitting defeat battle to strengthen my lawn and prevent weeds. As a result, I need to call in reinforcements. I don't want someone to mow, edge, etc. I can do that fine myself. I am interested in finding someone who will help me re-establish a lush, weed-free lawn and then give me instructions on how to effectively maintain it myself into the future.

I've never used any kind of lawn service before, so I have no idea what this kind of service costs. However, cost is always a factor.

Any recommendations?

We had an issue last year and called ABC Home and Commercial. The guy who came out was great - inspected the yard, told us what was wrong, what they would do about it, and how much it would cost. Then he told us how we could do it ourselves if we wanted to. I'd have no hesitations calling them again.

What kind of grass do you have now?

I am kind of in the same boat. I can mow/edge/weedeat, but would like someone to do the other things. I used to have a lawn service and they did a cleanup after winter (leaves and stuff) that was around $75. I guess I'd want that on a more regular basis. Any suggestions?

Two years ago, my St. Augustine was dying like crazy even though I had fertilized it and was spending way too much money on watering it. He started feeding my grass in the fall and through the winter. The next spring it came back strong and was a healthy, weed free lawn. I can't say enough about him. He works wonders.

And, I used way less water last summer even though we were in a drought compared to the year before.

Jeff, I've also used Tim at Aggieland Green and was beyond pleased. He did exactly what you're looking for, and he also found a way to get rid of some really nasty, aggressive dallisgrass that the big name guys hadn't been able to put a dent in. Tim didn't even think he'd be able to do anything about it, but he researched and experimented and knocked it out.

Closer to $50/mo.

My lot is about 12,000 sq/ft, and about 7,500 of that is grass. I believe it's about $550/yr for the basic service (4 fertilizations, weed control and spot treatment for fungus).
