A&M is very fortunate that its first game is at Kyle. We are also fortunate that it is Florida as opposed to most of the other SEC competition.
There is no question that Florida will be favored and for good reason. Yet the psychology will be in A&M's favor in a similar way that we have had it against Texas in years past when at Kyle.
Everyone in the Div-1 football world will be watching and the squeeze will be on. It will be on Sumlin to win and/or have respectable play. Aggies will be squeezing. Sumlin will be squeezing. The theater curtain of the main show rises on A&M for this game.
But there will be more of a squeeze on Muschamp...and Florida.
Florida had a flat season last year, as we know, but all the goodwill capital is used up in Gainesvile. Muschamp has had his 'transition' year. Now the knives will be out. Now he has to cut the mustard. He has much shorter of a leash than Sumlin has. Expectations are higher in Florida.
A Florida loss to A&M would turn heads in the college football world. It would not be a 'surpise', as much as it would be 'notable'. Specifically, it would signal what everyone already knows..and that is that A&M 'can' compete in this league. It would also turn heads among the Florida brass along with their fans. The seat would become immediately warm for Muschamp.
Point being is that is in many ways, there is more to lose than to gain by Florida in this first SEC matchup. Yet an A&M win would set a great tone...for the conference and, of course, for us. We will have some SEC losses next year. But this one is conceivably winnable (unlike some).
I think the football gods were looking out for us when the SEC schedulers were working the scenarios. The final one is good for us. The schedule is most favorable for the first year gauntlet.
And make no mistake, it IS a gauntlet.
