Saban makes 6 million a year.

How much would you, if you were AD, pay for Urban Meyer?

If not urban, give your top name coach and how much youd pay

(bonus points for creative thinking like: Tressel 4 million a year)

Urban has made it clear he was tired of the SEC cheating and won't coach in that conference again.

I'm hearing Tommy Tubberville is gaining favor. He knows the SEC.

Without really doing the homework I'd like - I'd offer Pederson 3, right now. We'll negotiate from there.

Saban doesnt make $6 mill. He is making $4.15 this year and will go to $4.2 in the next 3 years.

i guess this adds in percs and stuff..

ok, so say saban makes 4.25 from his contract.

i think 4 million for Meyer would be ok

Just like it did for Bama, it is going to take a group of dedicated alums to make such hire happen.

We have alums with the deep pockets but are they willing to dig into them?

I would say I bet Saban pays for his own salary with his on the field success.

Just curious as to when Meyer said that the SEC was full of a bunch of cheats.

Especially when he himself got caught for calling a recruit's GF.

Seriously, when did he say this? Link?

If its any consolation, when I win the lottery I won't skimp on being a meddling, check writing, big cigar. I'm setting the standard at $7M a year. Stingy-ass bluehairs like seeing us suffer...

Ganu- Didn't you just answer your own question? If he got got cheating, as you say, wouldn't it follow that he knows people in the SEC cheat?

I thought that Mayer had to step down because the stress and hours of the job was affecting his health.

He is OLD and a tard! We need someone young, passion, and aggressive.

Serious question, would it even be feasible for us to pay a coach $5 million+ per year?

Aren't we going to have to pay a huge exit penalty for leaving the Big 12, and didn't we just give Sherman an extension?

I don't think we can afford a big-time "name" hire, can we?

Oh, there's no question we can't afford it. This is just a hypothetical "wish-list".

We are fvkced unless Sherm resigns and/or BMAs step up big time.

Ansel, sure you can, if you're committed to the football program. Winning cures all. If you have a coach thats going to win more, you'll make more in the long run. It's a risk, but one that certainly "can" be made.

Now will it........

Urban Meyer would do wonders for A&M. He's young enough. I wonder if he's not burned out?
If he would agree to a flat two year contract and then see how he physically feeling; I'd match what other top coaches are getting. If not Meyer; get a younger head coach with fire in his belly.
Gig em!

chosin, remember, our buyout with sherman sets us up MUCH BETTER than it did with fran. I do have to give byrne some credit, he didn't completely make the same mistake twice.

What about going after someone like Jimmy Johnson. Isn't he from Victoria, it would be close to hid hometown

Jimmy Johnson could probably do the job BIG-TIME!
BUT....I think he's pretty much decided to never work another day in his life, coaching-wise.
He loves that yacht in Miami and showing up a few weekends a year to 'analyze' and 'commentate' on NFL match-ups.
I doubt there's enough money being printed in Washington to ever get Jimmy back into coaching again.
(And besides, he's probably making a 'mint' already, with his TV gig).

Probably the most obvious choice (yes, I'm serious), if you could stomach his attitude and his antics, would be Leach.
Question is: could you keep him under enough control to stay out of trouble? And, would he be accepted and supported at A&M?
I doubt he'd turn down the offer, just a matter of whether anyone at A&M would be willing to consider him.

Gus Malzahn at Auburn is gonna be up for a major HC job, soon, too.......He's really creative and imaginative, offensively speaking. He has had a LOT to do with Auburn's success, since Chizik has been there. You could do a lot worse, if you're not able to hire an already-experienced and established head coach.

And since Leach has been "out of work" for a coupla years, and seems to still long for the thrill of competition and battle, and I'm sure he feels like he still has something to prove, he'd probably be willing to take the job without you guys having to back up a Brink's truck to his house. He doesn't seem like the type who's overly money-oriented. Bet he'd consider the job for what Sherman's making now, or at least something not that far away from it.

I'd love to see Gundy.

If u can't beat 'em buy'em!!!

Seriously he's improved EVERY year at Okie Lite. He's young, he's got the fire, players love and respect him. Recruits pretty well to the crap-hole known as Stillwater.
