Notes: The teams marked "Big East" are really a Big East/ACC merger and I don't expect that it would end up being called the Big East. Obviously some teams are in flux, I thought if it came down to between ISU/BU I thought that this new ACC/Big East would pick Baylor only because they are in Texas and TCU needs a partner. I'm not considering MWC as an AQ at this point, and there are three big time independents which are not marked by any conference. Obviously some of the east coast teams would be in flux, as well as the Virginia teams.

i think if it goes to 16 team conferences Boise ST would get picked up probably in the pac 16

and scratch Kansas to the big east

overall though i agree if super conferences form the ACC i think will pick up on some left over mid west teams and obviously rename themselves

Looking at your map I see the possible:

PAC does not take tech, but takes Missouri instead to give Kansas the "rival".

PAC 8 :
U$C, UCLA, CAL, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon St, Wash, Wash ST.

BIG 8:

AZ, ASU, CU, UT, OU, oSu, KU, Missouri

this leaves tu to reform a SWC II that they control

Well I see the divisions going this way:

PAC-16:
Pacific Division
Southwest Division

Big 10:
Who knows they are random, I guess they would keep their current format and just add to it.

SEC:
East
West

Big East/ACC:
Probably an East/West alignment.

A friend of mine who is a long time Big 12 assistant thinks in the future there will be four sisteen super conferences. Each would have a conf. championship game and the there would be a two game NC series.

Love this idea.

This is my hope for college football.

And lets take that a step further.

If the conferences went to 16, and they went into pods of 4, so that there was a playoff game before the conference championship, you would essentially end up with a four round college playoff of 16 teams, each a pod champion.

I've been preaching/predicting this for a while, and I'm pretty sure it's correct. Thinking that congressional investigations/media pressure/just plain "seeing the light" is going to change the BCS into a playoff system is nieve. Not gonna happen. We'll NEVER get rid of the bowls; there's two much money involved. It's just the way it is.

BUT what WILL happen is that once there are 4 16-team superconferences, the superconferences will have either 2 8-team division, or 4 4-team mini-divisions and each conference will have a championship game or +1 system INTERNALLY, which will then give us 2 semi-final games and then a championship game AMONG the conference champs. Essentially, it will be a playoff, of sorts, only the first games of the playoff will be within the conferences.

As a playoff proponent, I could live with this.

This. Four 16-team super conferences. Each with a conference championship leading to a four team, 2-week playoff.

Keeps the current bowl system but gives a solid NC for all those that think that's the objective.

Why would you need to to do this? You can have a 4 team conference champion playoff and a bowl system for everyone else. It would be a difference of 2 extra games from the current setup.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure you're agreeing with me without knowing it.

TTU might actually benefit in this situation being the only PAC16 college in Texas.

I'd like to see six 16 team conferences. Polls would only matter in determining how the 6 conference champions are ranked at the very end(top 2 get a bye). Therefore, OOC games hardly matter so you can schedule big time games and they can only help at the very end if you win your conference.

It gives 96 teams a chance to make the big game every year(64 is not enough imo) and only requires the 5 current BCS games to complete the playoffs. The 90 teams that don't make the playoffs can play in the other elventy billion bowls just like they currently do.

The best part about it is that every week in conference is, potentially, do or die. It would make for a very exciting season.

64 teams is not enough? Seriously? When was the last time you could really make a case that the 65th team should be #1?

Last year? If you go to Super Conference model someone is gonna get left out if you only have 64 teams. And if you're not in a Super Conference you are literally shut out of any chance to play for it all.

Think UH, Southern Miss, East Carolina, etc. How about Kansas, KState, Central Florida?

I think that you can't block them out completely. They would never survive to the end, but there are certainly two or three dozen teams that should at least have a real opportunity when fall practice starts.

Besides, if you only include the top 64, the conference schedule would be brutal. Not to mention that 4 superconferences would spread everything so far geographically that fan travel would be limited.
Rydyn

Get those "extras" into a real conference where they can play a real schedule and then we can talk about being #1.
stick93

That's my point. If you only have four super conferences their is no "real" conference for them to go to. They are effectively eliminated from winning it all now. You create a 64 team super division 1 and they are literally eliminated. It will never fly.
