Chip Brown said this morning, after talking with several Big 12 school officials, their concern is not necessarily OU. Their concern is A&M and feel this round is very serious this time. He also mentioned reports of Slive being asked this morning, specifically about Texas A&M moving to the SEC, and Slive would not debunk the rumor but remained quiet and looked away.

Where did Chip Brown say this?

I copied the quote from another A&M website - the thread was titled "Chip Brown Foreshadowing". I'm not sure if it was something he said on the radio or something he wrote.

from twitter

supposedly he also said that ESPN is starting to sour on this deal with LHN.

They know they are losing the battle with the cable companies because LHN doesn't have enough content to interest casual fans. Thats one of the big reasons they were pushing so hard to show HS games.

With that off the table, they realize that LHN is going to lose them money and according to chippy, they are seriously considering turning LHN into the B12 network because that now seems the only way they can recoup the 300 million they have invested in this.

If Bebe can make THAT happen, then he will have earned his title of "savior of the Big 12"

I would be very encouraged by this if Chip Brown hadn't been wrong on 90% of his all time predictions. The guy just makes **** up sometimes.

Granted it is chip brown, but I have been thinking this too. Of course the b12 network will be biased towards tu.

They would probably have to move the headquarters to Dallas and have some rules on how much a team gets to be one there (probably a minimum amount) to get the rest of the conference on board.

ESPN has to back off putting the HS and conference games on cowtv, which will basically doom the channel, to keep the b12 together or go forward with it and kill the b12 within a year.

Now a crazy prediction, is that espn tries to buy us off and creates the lone star network from cowtv.

Frankly, if they are truly concerned about us that might be their best bet.

Not surprised at all if true. If any program is "joined at the hip" with the whorns it's OU not A&M. Last summer's whorn express to the Pac10 proved that when it came to a screeching halt when they realized we weren't aboard.

Of course OU is not a concern. They have Bevo's big balls sitting on their foreheads all year long! Now THEY really need Texas.

I don't know anyone who can look at what happened last summer and think that is a crazy prediction.

They will try to buy us off. I don't know what happens if we turn ESPN/ABC/Disney or Fox down on the hush money what that does to the negotiations on the SEC contracts, but it certainly will make coverage of our events awkward at best.

This all comes down to Disney trying to control college football and willing to pay people under the table to do it rather than compete on the up and up.

DFW is twice the population of that entire state. They would do anything to keep the Red River Rivalry. When tu goes independent, it will demand half the games be on the LHN. OU will quickly respond, "yes sir."

Still wouldn't trust a Big12-2 network run by ESPN to be nothing more than a tu infomercial.

Independence solves the sip issues with getting more tu football games on the channel.

The HS stuff will be more of a pickle.

The b10 channel is going to want the option to broadcast HS games from its entire conference footprint. If lhn can do it, so can the b10.

And if they start doing it, any conference or school can use a channel as third party to the put HS games of recruits on said channel.

The NCAA will **** it up and create a much bigger mess because they will not come out and say you cannot do it.

But once they let tu do it, anyone can do it.

And what Chippie is saying makes perfect sense. The Whorns bit off more cud than they could chew. Its obvious to anyone who takes a step back. I just thought Dodds would be too proud to step away from the cliff.

I still hate Chippie! little smoo puzzy

Indy would get the sips their tv games. But they dont want A&M nor ou in the SEC. Right now, they control things. If we, adn especially ou goes to the SEC, they lose control.

I think for once, the sips may not get everything they want.

If they want cowtv in its grandest form, they are going to have to deal with A&M (and maybe ou) in the SEC.

If they do not want us in the SEC, then they are going to have lower their expectations of the network tremendously (so much so that it ends up being a b12 or lone star network).

Could you imagine if they stink again next year and they still haven't forced the channel onto cable systems?

All those t-shirts they sell are based on their success in football. Two bad years in a row, that support will shrink like dan beebe's member when deloss dodds blows him a kiss.

The launch of that network is a month away and they've already hired a bunch of staff to work for a "longhorn network."

It would be a tremendous mess at this point to turn the LHN into a Big 12 network. None of the other teams are going to be part of a channel where longhorns and professed longhorn fans have already been hired to fill all the positions.

This deal never made sense for ESPN. There's not enough programming. Even if they managed to get a good conference game like Tech or OSU on it I can't figure out how they would ever make enough money on the deal.

As for UT, no question it's a great deal. If ESPN offered A&M the same deal, we'd take it in a heartbeat and do exactly what Texas is doing... see how much we can get away with(re: showing recruits)

There's no way they can get away with showing recruit's games or there will be a riot in college football. It breaks all kinds of rules.

If you allow that, where does it end? Why couldn't you give a 15 minute sportscenter style interview to a recruit at halftime of your bowl game?

tu will then be the hero for instigating the Big12 network, which if implemented equitably might help to save the conference, but I still think we would have to add 2 schools. Just my uninformed dos centavos.

So cow tv becomes b12tv and UT gets the 300 million? The contracts have been signed, no? Arnt they guaranteed 300 million? I doubt they're just going to Invite everyone over and divide it up.

Basically schools will end up using sports channels, particularly regional ones where they have influence to show recruits games. The game will be called (channel's name)(university's name) HS game of the week.

For example, Sun Sports/Florida Gator HS Game of the Week.

I hope they have an out to get that $300MM back from Texas. If not, I'd happily take another $300MM from ESPN.
