FYI Fox Sports has been trying very hard to re-enter the world of college football. They are determined not to roll over and let the ABC/ESPN/Disney conglomerate take over the sport.

This is meant to be their loud statement that they are a player in college football.

That's a good thing.

If ESPN takes over, they will give sweet heart deals to the top revenue teams to make sure they have a even greater competitive advantage that ensures they will and win their conferences every year, ensuring ESPN the most ratings they can get.

ESPN wants to talk about Michigan because lots of people watch when they do. They don't want to lose ratings by having to cover Michigan State and their fewer fans just because they "win" or "earn" it.

So they give the Blue a huge Texas-esque contract and bury MSU under the pile of money and positive attention they heap on UM no matter how long it takes them to get back on track.

Guys this is the 2nd tier rights deal, not the first tier rights that ESPN will be involved in 2014.

Slightly concerned over the length, but still a nice bump from what is currently considered one of the worst 2nd tier rights deals in CFB.

If Fox Sports wants to make a come back in big time college football coverage they will have to ink contracts with big time conferences, of which XII -2 is not one, and improve their telecasts starting with better HD not to mention broadcasters. Their football broadcasts are currently serious 2nd tier maybe worse.

I have noticed a lack of 'horn content on FSN of late, since they made a deal with ESPN.

Anyone else noticed that?

Also, after the last couple of Rangers games, ol' Rick Renner has mentioned our girls' run in the Final Four.

No doubt it'll happen again tonight.

You know the lawyers are going to be all over this one.

The deal is for second tier games, which are games not picked up by ABC/ESPN. The Longhorn Network is part of ESPN.

As well they should. There are actually quite a few Aggie lawyers out there. We should privately fund a law school at A&M.

So if TExas sucks and none of their games get picked up so the LH Network picks them up, they should still get money form Fox Sports?

There are also a crap load of games that are worth watching that are not picked up so I am excited about this.

Slow down. In order for a game to be picked up by the longhorn network, the following must happen.

1. ABC must pass on a 7:00 pm national telecast.
2. ABC must pass on the 2:30 pm timeslot.
3. FSN must pass on the 6:00 pm timeslot.
4. FSN must pass on the 11:30 am timeslot.
5. ESPN2 must pass on the 7:00 pm timeslot.
6. Game is eligible to be picked up on ESPNtexas.

Rumor has it that included in the new fox deal is an added timeslot for a game broadcast on FX. If that is the case, it adds another tier that must be skipped in order for a texas game to filter through to ESPNtexas.

Further, if any of you have read anything on the way Murdoch runs his business over at Fox, expect him to try and ensure that ESPNtexas fails. One way he can do his part is to never let a texas game, both football and basketball, filter through to the third tier media which is ESPNtexas. Now, ESPN is getting a waiver in the new deal where they get a minimum number of games on their network, but it is a minimum. Fox can hurt ESPNtexas pretty significantly by picking up texas games at every instance.

patch would like to believe that since ESPNtexas is a part of ESPN that it gets to choose its games, but he is dead wrong.

I thought The horn network was only gauaranteed one maybe two football games per year?

Last I read it was 1 football game, 8 basketball games, and everything else (baseball, volleyball, etc).

The deal might have changed, but I doubt it.
