I had the tv on mute and just saw the banner that said that, I got confused pretty quick before I turned the volume back on and heard him say Texas Tech.

Yes because we are bad now. Gillespie is a pretty good coach who lucked out coming in with Acie Law running point.

Why would they even do something like this? I often scoff at those who say espn is deliberately out to get us, but how else do you explain this? Shut like that doesn't simply happen by accident. WTF?

people make mistakes...it happens

during college football live last year they were previewing the Florida-Mississippi State game and when the showed the logos they showed the Florida State logo instead of Florida.

And im still waiting for the Texas-Cal Holiday bowl I watched Desmond Howard give a preview for

Some people are ridiculous. BCG rode Acie's coattails to a couple of good seasons and then parlayed that into a "better" job. He was selling himself to anyone that would listen. He got out of dodge, leaving no point guard behind.

He gets kudos for resurrecting the A&M program. That's it. He was not loyal to A&M and just used it as a stepping stone. Turge is building the program. BCG was a flash in the pan.

without BCG you never get Turgeon to coach at A&M. BCG created a program that was good enough for a good coach to come in and continue the success that he started.

A&M isn't the only program that BCG has turned around. He resurrected UTEP too.

I love how better is in quotes, as if there's any question that Kentucky is a better job than A&M.

What? Resurrecting us to the good old days when had a big time basketball program back in 19never?

He gets kudos for building us into a big time basketball program from scratch. He got us to our only Sweet 16 since the tournament expanded in 1984 or 85 or whenever. And that was only three years after we lost EVERY conference game.

Resurrecting us, that's funny. Be mad about how he left if you want, but don't pretend he's not a hell of a coach. If he did actually want to come back, we should help Turgeon box up his stuff and wish him well at his next employer.

It's all relative. Billy was here three years and got a much better offer - no big deal. On the football board, not a single person (except me) had a problem with DeRuyter looking to move to Tulsa after just one year so I guess it's all relative.

How quickly people forget.

Or maybe they don't wish to remember....

What aggravates me about the chronic BCG love is that folks tend to remember only that which they want to remember.

BCG didn't take a UK offer that just happened to come along.

BCG and his agent were active looking for something....anything....that would take him away from our beloved cow college.

If it had not been Kentucky, it would have been Arkansas. Ar-kum-freaking-saw. Gnaw on that for a moment.

He was ready to toss us over the side to move to a land of toothless people who don't bathe and who marry blood relatives. Had it not been a departure for a stories program like Kentucky, how many of you folks with your nose up BCG's backside would be defending him?

He probably had gotten estimates on moving his household goods to Fayetteville and his agent was probably already pricing red plastic pig helmets.

BCG was a mercenary. He came in at the right time and fell in to a really good situation. He's a good coach. Let there be no doubt. He wasn't good enough to work magic at Kentucky, though, and it wasn;t from a dearth of talent. Ergo he was a good coach, he is scarcely the Pope. He's not infallible.

Could someone else do what he did at A&M? We'll never know. But he made it clear, via his departure and the way that he did it, that he never gave a rat's ass about anything Aggie. To pretend otherwise is foolish.

I hope it doesn't happen, but it might be interesting to see what all of the BCG-lovers and Turge haters on this board would do if Turgeon were to announce his departure for NCState. Granted, I expect Byrne would find us someone else good - if you give him credit for nothing else you have to admit that he can hire a good basketball coach.

Be careful what you ask for, you might get it. Tech hiring Gillispie may very well help their program. Certainly it won't make it any worse. Oh, and it certainly won't do Tech any good in the Big12 tournament. He won a grand total of one game there in his 3 years at the helm.

For a coach with weapons like Law IV, that was pretty shabby.

Honestly, that's life. Get a better opportunity and move on.

But head coaches and in football defensive/offensive coordinators should feel obligated to stay at least two years and probably three before heading to greener pastures...

At Kentucky, it was the politics and prima donna players that did him in. I'm sure it was unlike anything he had ever experienced before as a coach.

haustin, you've spent an inordinate amount of time on here defending BCG and extolling his virtues. Here is my question:

What makes you an expert on all things BCG? Are you his valet? Do you hold his organ for him while he urinates? Do you clean him up after he goes poo-poo? What gives?

In truth, you have no idea why he failed at Kentucky. You say it was politics and prima-donnas. I would suggest that he crawled up inside a bottle and killed some brain cells and made bad decisions. We may both be wrong. Or we may both be right. Or it may have been a combination of things. But neither of us knows for sure.

Take a piece of advice from someone who has been on TexAgs before it was TexAgs. I go back to the old GoBig12 boards before TexAgs was established:

Let it go. BCG is the enemy. He tossed us on his scrap heap. He is now a tard. If you can't let it go, order some red-and-black gear, sign up for some Tech message boards, and don't let the door of TexAgs dot com hit you in the butt on your way out.

Oh, and have a nice day.

Best Regards

TAK

Not sure exactly where or when I "extolled his virtues," but you're right that I, like many others on this board, do not have overly negative feelings toward the man. In fact, I have respect for the way BCG put TAMU basketball back on the map (no easy chore mind you). Indeed, you could argue that before BCG, Aggie basketball wasn't even on the map.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
First of all, if you're arguing with haustin, you're arguing with a troll. I hope you realize that.
Secondly, "[He] fell in to a really good situation" is kind of a stretch, don't you think? He inherited a team that went 0-16 in conference play.
Texags is garbage

Sweet, I heard Acie law won't be quitting the team as well! I sure hope Antoine Wright doesn't leave after next season...

I'm sure they will be happy with only winning 1 Big 12 tournament game to get a sweet 16 appearance..... THE tournament that matters isn't the one the big 12 has.
