Had the opportunity to go to the AFCA Convention at the Anatole in Dallas the past few days and thought I'd share some observations after bumping elbows with some of the D-1 big dogs.
Coaches met:
Jackie Sherrill - looked younger in person, awesome to finally meet him for the first time
RC Slocum - looked older in person, had a beer with him just like in those Facebook pictures
Mike Sherman - good handshaker, small talked about it being so cold
Tim DeRuyter - talked with him and Fisher DeBerry at the same time. Pretty cool
Dat Ngyuen - lost a ton of weight from his playing days
Terrell Williams - huge guy in person
Bobby Bowden - Got to hear him say dadgummit! Could listen to him talk for hours
Les Miles - much older looking in person
Mike Gundy - great hair, pretty short in person
Bret Bielema - Kind of an ass
Mark Dantonio - His segment was boring people to tears. Very hard to stay awake
Josh Heupel - taller than I would have thought. Put on some weight since his playing days
Nick Rolovich - Hawaii's OC and QB coach. By far the best Chalk Talk for the event. Great things to say about the passing game
Todd Dodge - UNT put some grey in his hair
Tommy Tuberville - almost too thin, ears bigger in person
Hal Mumme - Another favorite. Crazy old Air Raider with a bunch of good stories
Gary Patterson - Never left the same couch in the lobby the entire time
