Aggie D: We've got Tim DeRuyter...and we all know he did to Holgerson..
Von: Coach, Men always buy you drinks because of what happened in the bowl game vs Dana Holgerson's Houston Coog offense.
Strangers know more about you than I do.
DeRuyter:Coach Sherman asked me that question around about the time you decided to stay for your senior year.
I was drunk and foolish enough to answer it.
Holgerson and the Cogs had air-raided along the C-USA to their last game vs Rice
The Owls had sought refuge at Robertson Stadium.
By the time the 4th quarter rolled around, the stadium was abandoned.
They'd left about a week before.
But what we found was....
Von: Go on.
They'd ran the score; up kicked meaningless field goals, 2 pt conversions.
With the screen-passes and...
...some of the play-actions, they had....
We prayed for them all, what was left of their athletic program..
We caught up with them at the Armed Forces Bowl.
We took our time.
We picked them apart slowly.
Piece by piece.
I can see their faces.
I can still hear their fans.
All but two Touchdowns, We let them score.
We sent their WR's helmets on a pallet...
...with the two that had actually caught TD passes back to Robertson stadium.
The cups, mouthpieces, cleats...
...we put in baskets.
Sent them down I-45 to the SMU.
Soon after, SMU broke their treaty with the Cougars.
That's how we justified it.
We were...
...heroes.
Von: And men bought you drinks.
Coach DeRuyter: Not a day goes by where I don't ask God's forgiveness for what I did.
