The Gambler
On a warm autumn's evenin',
On a bus bound for nowhere (Lubbock)
I met up with the gambler.
We were both too wired to sleep.
So we took turns a-glarin'
Out the window at the emptiness.
When boredom overtook us,
He began to speak.
He said, "Stoops, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces.
Knowin' what the plays were
By the way they held their eyes.
So if you don't mind my sayin',
I can see you're out of aces,
For a taste of your RC cola,
I'll give you some advice.
"So I handed him my bottle,
and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed some nicorette
And asked me for some sprite.
And the night got "Joe Jamaal Field" quiet,
And his faced lost all expression.
He said, "If You're gonna play the game, boy,
You gotta learn to play it right.
"You've got to know
When to hold 'em,
Know when to Blitz 'em
Know when to pass away,
Know when to run.
You never count your bcs points
When you're sittin' on the sidelines.
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the playin's done.
Now every gambler knows
The secret to survivin'
Is knowin' when to throw away
And knowin' when to QB keep.
'Cause every Reggie play's a winner
And every Wreckin Crew play's a loser
And the best that you can hope for
Is the line of scrimmage on a sweep.
"And when he finished speakin',
He turned back toward the window,
Choked on his nicorette
And faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness,
The gambler he broke even.
And in his final words I found
An ace that I could keep.

I don't know if the picture is funnier, the thought of Bob Stoops needing RCs advice about anything, or the complete irony of using RC and gambler in the same sentence. Perhaps if we keep up the blitz packages we used against OU the rest of the year I could start buying it, but until the Wrecking Crew brings back the havock and leaves opposing QBs with their ears ringing, I will remain skeptical. I heard RC took over calling the defensive plays in the OU game, which would be welcome giving the shortcomings of the 3-2-6 Hanky-Panky scheming.
