I am glad Wally finally cleared things up. Kyle Field is not sacred, at least not the field. It is a MYTH. Check it out:

"There's no policy about not having anyone on the field because it's a memorial," Groff said Tuesday. "I'd never even heard of that, other than in recent years. It certainly wasn't that way when I was in school. To say that's a myth is to use as good a word as any."

Thanks Wally.

personally I could care less. I'm not stupid enough to go rushing someone else's field, and I would expect others to do the same.

it is sacred to me. do we run around on the field in celebration after a win? do we allow our opponents? the answer is obviously no so there Kyle Field must be held sacred by most Aggies.

It's true Kyle Field itself is not officially a memorial to fallen war heroes. Regardless of its memorial status, the Huskers should have respected our wishes and stayed off the field. How they claim "I didn't know" sounds like a lame attempt at innocence. Would you stomp across your neighbor's flower garden if she asked you not to? Even if you really can claim "she never told me not to," did you not see the armed police, security guards, and OD's surrounding her flower garden?

And what's up with telling the officers not to use force to keep people off? Since when is it ok to ignore a cop if he tells you to do something?

I am so gladd that this came out!!!!!!! It is only Freaking GRASS!!!!!!!!!! The cadet that slugged the Nebraska Fan just because of celebration needs his butt whooped. To me, some of the traditions hurt this athletic program, and people need to grow the Hell up and be more respectful for people taking pride in their respectable teams. Now, if somebody took a dump on the field, then beat their azz!!

Ags, grass does grow back

Right On!!!!!!!

If anything, the police are needed to keep the Corps off the field. They are the ones causing the violence.

JAR- "Do we run around the field in celebration after a win?" Hell yes. Hundreds of fish chase the yell leaders all over Kyle Field. That doesn't count?
No announcement was made about staying off the field so how would they know. Running on to the field happens at stadiums all over the country every weekend.
The easiest way to stop this would to be to win a stinkin' home game for once.

I know it's not on the same scale, but do some of you think it's ok to burn the flag? I mean, it's just a symbol of something we love- it's not really hurting anyone. I'm sure they'll make more of them.

Nebraska should have stayed off the field simply because we didn't want `em there. Whether it's silly or immature or prideful doesn't make a *blip*. Point is, owners said no, so follow the rules.

What does Groff know? I never ever thought of him as an authority on anything.

The only thing that matters is that the Corps has no legal authority on the matter. It becomes a black eye for the university and after calling Texas Tech classless clowns for their conduct, if nothing is done to this cadet the administration must therefore condone it so we are now just the thugs of the Big 12. By condoning this incident as Aggies you are saying "Aggies have class and are among the best fans in the world when we win, but if we lose at Kyle you better ascribe to everything we do or we are going to fight." Everywhere else, this logic just means that we are sore losers and as a fan base don't have as much class as we think.

So, if groff says its ok for opposing fans to celebrate by performing lude acts on the 50yd line (95 tu game)...then its ok?? give me a break. I'm glad he's leaving.

Hey, I know a lot of Aggies who have performed lewd acts on the 50 yard line (although not necessarily during a game)

If the team took care of business on the field we would not even have this discussion.

AND IF THE POLICE DEPT WOULD DO SOMETHING BESIDES LOOKING LIKE A BUMP ON A LOG AND DO THEIR JOB, IT WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE EITHER

Because it's not against the law to run on the field.

IS disorderly conduct against the law???

Disorderly conduct is against the law, but running on the field is not disorderly conduct.

I think we have beat this horse to death. No one is saying that you ags cannot make up a rule in the name of tradition to keep opposing fans off the field. What everyone seems to have a problem with is the extent that some of you ags are willing to let people go to enforce this rule. OK fine, beat his ass up if he steps one foot on your field. What if he is a real tough *******, what do you do shoot him in the leg. Right or wrong the ags have had a stereotype of being redneck white trash. All this behavior does is to reinforce that stereotype.

As a Neb. alum I was just as upset with the disrespectful fans as most Aggies. I was at the game and it was a very minor incident that only lasted a few moments. I hope to hear some type of apology from the Nebraska campus, either the athletic director or Frank Solich. In the mean time here's an apology from a Nebraska fan who does respect Aggie traditions.

Ken, this has nothing to do with name calling. I don't appreciate you using this issue as an exuse to do so. Arogant yankees and stuck up yuppies like to call others red necks and such. A&M does not represent this any more than other Texas schools...or SEC schools for that matter.

I have heard a number of stories from way back about Ags trying to keep people off the field. I don't know for sure what the origin of this is, but it came from somewhere.

I have never heard anyone mention anything about a reputation due to this tradition. The few minor incidents I have heard of are never televised or get any coverage worth noticing. It is nothing like the "goal post" incident or anything. There is a 1000 times more discussion about this on this web site or between Aggies than anywhere else.

Who is namecalling. I said that the STEREOTYPE alot of people have about aggies is that they are a bunch of rednecks. The STEREOTYPE of most Longhorns is that they are a bunch of spoiled rich kids. Do you not agree that those are the typical STEREOTYPES of both schools. BTW they are both far from the truth.

Not only is it NOT sacred... Kyle field apparently no longer provides any home field advantage.

Wrong! The stereotype of Longhorns is that they are a bunch of limp wristed hippies. SMU has all the spoiled rich kids. Thus the nickname, Southern Millionaire University. All the smart kids go to Rice. All the partiers go to SWT and all the kids that couldn't get into UT or A&M go to Tech.

Aren't stereotypes fun?

In the 80's, we used to play footbal on the turf at midnight stumbling back from NG. There wasn't **** that was sacred about it back then. What's changed? If it's so sacred, keep the Fish CT's off of it at the end of the game. Make them chase the Yell leaders around on the track.

I want to say it was 1978 a BQ got his neck broken tackling someone that ran across the field at Midnight Yell. I never understood the basis for protecting the field. I never heard anyone actually claim the field was a memorial until a few weeks ago here on TexAgs, it was just one of several macho psuedo-traditions that has been instilled over the years, most likely becasue noone ever bothered to kill it after it had been said once and repeated once. I always thought that was essentially the same reason that Greg Hood pulled his saber on the SMU cheerleaders in 1981.
