Elder's Scouting Report -- Luke & Matt Joeckel -- LINK

Hey fellas. Here is a FREE SAMPLE for you fans of Aggie Football and recruiting! Each week, I travel to a high school football game and scout A&M commits, targets and other big or up-and-coming prospects. This week's Scouting Report focuses on Arlington High School twins and Aggie commitments Luke (OT) and Matt (QB) Joeckel. It was a lot of fun watching the Joeckel boys perform last Friday in a big win over Arlington Bowie. I was very impressed.

At the end of the scout, I have a comment or two on 2011 WR prospect Miles Onyegbule. But the focus of the story is on Brothers Joeckel.

I hope you enjoy the feature. You know where to go if you want much, much more of this type of content!

Thanks.

I am predicting one hell of a battle between Joeckel and fellow incoming fish Jameill Showers next year for the backup quarterback spot.

What about Tannehill and Dorman?

That's what I thought too.

Tannehil is the backup QB.

I'm guessing the thought is Tannehill will move permanently to WR if Sherman feels comfortable with a backup at qb.

It would be really nice to start red shirting the entire class...

The battle will be to see which one gets the most leftover reps. Or which one will challenge Dorman for backup duties.
Frankly, it should be quite interesting to see how QB shakes out next season.
JJ has one left, barring a superman ending to this season where he goes pro.
So during the next season, we'll need to be grooming the 2011 starter.
Will Tannehill be given first rights or are they looking for 2 more QBs to compete through next year, so that they can finally move Tannehill to WR and count on certain production from him there.
If Joekel or Showers comes in and lights it up, then Dorman will have to have turned it up a notch through the end of this season to stave them off.
He'll likely get extra reps in the bowl game practices (yea I said it) cause we'll probably use Tannehill at WR in a bowl. I mean why save him. Doubtful that both JJ and he get hurt in the same game. If they do, just dump Dorman out there, season's over right after that. No reason to save anyone.

Good article. I'm even more excited about these two guys coming in next year.

Guys...Tommy Dorman is a long way from competing for time at QB. Plain and simple.

Maybe. But even as a longtime friend of Matt's, Joeckel isn't much closer than Tommy was during his senior season up there off Mid Cities blvd. at BHS.

Maybe Showers is, although with all those injuries I'd be surprised.

You're probably right, TX. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Tommy Dorman fan and I think he's a great kid who comes from a great family. I want him to succeed.

I just wanted that to be on the record here.

You guys are all waaaay off the mark. The up and coming QB will be the WR's roommate and fishing buddy.

I swear, its like you guys don't ever watch ESPN.

Hey, all that needs to happen is for Tommy and EZ and/or T'thrill to become fishing buddies, right?

Seriously, all this competition for the QB is nothing but greatness for A&M!!

Thanks for the GREAT article Kirk, and please keep them coming. I used to live in Keller and go to go to a game or two in Arlington. Live in KS now, but it's nice to see some folks from mid-cities going maroon

BTHO CU!!!!

How can they be twins and one is a QB and one an OT?
Did one eat Wheaties and pump iron while the other chased girls?

Zona...they're both huge, actually. Matt is nearly 6-5 and built like a house. Luke is between 6-6 and 6-7 and is knocking on 300 pounds.

Both very solidly built individuals.

Gabe,
Some questions:
1. Any chance in the world of nabbing WR Darius White??
2. TE’s?? Naquan Lee or Antonio Johnson; have we offered either and what have they indicated?
3. Any chance of getting DT Jay Guy?
4. Have we offered to DB Toney Hurd? What are our chances??
I understand if you decline to comment, as some of the above would normally be reserved for paying subscribers. I missed that 30 day/free deal, but will look for it in the futur (yeah, I'm hoping). Anyway, any comment to the questions above would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I don't see it out of the question that if Tannhill still dreams to play QB and Sherman still thinks the world of him at the next level even, then I think by next season we should have a pretty good receiving core that would allow Tannehill to be the #2 QB - getting ready for the 2011 Season as the starter. This is of course if JJ wins the job again next spring

I see Showers coming in nest season and possibly playing a role like Shepard does with LSU. Even though JJ can run, he doesn't have the explosive breakaway speed like Showers. Might be nice to get him in on a few plays a game - give the defense one more thing to have to prepare for. That being said, I think Matt J is redshirted with the anticipation he and Showers will provide the necessarty QB competition from 2012 - 2014/2015.

As far as Dorman, I really could care less as I have heard nothing great from his camp.

Nice article, Kirk. Thanks.

My buddy coaches for AHS and says both bros. are great kids, hard workers, and monsters on the field. We'll be traveling from FL to visit them next week and if AHS is still in the playoffs, (they get 7-3 Burleson Friday night) I should get to see the Joeckels play in person. Really looking forward to it.
