From The Times-Picayune (New Orleans newspaper) recruiting chat, excerpts that have A&M connections

tigas1: James, what does LSU not like about Cameron Sims? He is a 6'3” WR and he has impressive offers. Is he one that they need to see at summer camp? Does he plan on visiting LSU this summer?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: The concerns about Sims are simply related to his speed. LSU wants speed on the outside and they are concerned that Sims doesn't have that extra gear they are looking for.
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: At this point, I do not expect Sims to attend the LSU camp. If he were to show up, run a good time and play well throughout, it could possibly work out in his favor. As of now, he has a lot of offers and I am not sure he makes that trip to Baton Rouge, though.

Mack Zettenberger: In last week’s chat you were asked about Speedy Noil’s tweet that his top three schools were Texas A&M, USC, and Florida. You replied: “I have been hearing this for a while, but first scratched it off as rumors. But I keep hearing it...And this goes for [Gerald] Willis and Noil”. In that same chat you indicated that you think both will sign with LSU. Why do you think that, despite evidence to the contrary?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: Recruiting is a long process and the way one may feel today often doesn't match up with how they feel in the end. Noil has been concerned about the other WR's on the board and until [LSU RB coach and recruiting coordinator] Frank Wilson explained that the other guys don't even play the same position, it bothered Noil.
Both are fond of LSU and they were the original leaders. I feel like the recruiting circus surrounding them will slow a bit and they will drift back into LSU's corner. They are concerned with playing time, but I think they will also realize that there are more opportunities to get on the field early than they see right now.

Tiger Fanatic: What did you think about Brandon Harris’ play at Parkway’s spring game last week?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: I was extremely impressed to be honest. Here is a write-up about just that:

JayMing: Do you see LSU signing two QBs, and who do you think they will be?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: That is what Cam Cameron has been saying as of late. I expect the two to be Parkway's Brandon Harris and Ohio standout Deshone Kizer.

Mack Brown: In last week’s chat you said my approach to recruiting is outdated and this will be my last year as the coach at UT. Criticize all you want, but the SEC schools will have to share a network and we have one of our own – can’t you see that that’s a modern recruiting advantage? WE’RE TEXAS.
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: The network is a recruiting advantage, but winning is the biggest advantage. Texas will bounce back because they are TEXAS, but it won't be this year. Sorry Mack...Just my opinion my friend

therealduckie: Who do you put on commitment watch for this weekend?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: Anthony Jones from Karr and Trey Quinn from Barbe are two I will be keeping a close eye on...have for a while to be honest. Brandon Harris will get the heat from the coaches as well.

Mack Zettenberger: How exactly is Speedy Noil related to Frank Wilson, and how much do you think that will affect his decision?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: They are cousins, but not 1st cousins. Honestly, it gives Frank an in with the family, but Noil goes by the beat of his own drum. It keeps LSU in the loop and always gives them an in, but that is about it.
arsaintfan: Speedy has a rocky relationship with his own family and when Wilson first approached him with the family angle, it actually blew up in his face.

Tfat225: Currently if Sims proves he has the speed and skill set at camp if he attends would you take him in this class over [Tony] Upchurch? A WR class of [D’Haquille] Williams, Noil, Quinn, [Malachi] Dupre, [Saeed] Blacknall and Sims would be unfair!!!
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: If it were up to me...yes I would. I really like Sims' game, but Upchurch is already committed and I don't see them cutting him loose for Sims at this point.

redfieldk717: Who do you think is the top 2015 in state prospect?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: As of now, I am leaning toward Jerry Tillery from Evangel [HS in Shreveport]. He has the complete package to be an outstanding left tackle. Super smart, great frame, extremely flexible (Jump and land in a split at 300+ pounds) and a fluid athlete with a mean streak.

Michael: How are things going with Leonard [Fournette]?
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: Things are going well for LSU with Leonard. Texas, Bama and USC are worth watching, but I feel like LSU is in a VERY good position. He will be in our studios tomorrow for the weekly recruiting corner. Be sure to watch Thursday.

lsu 2011 sec champs mnc fact: Hi Jimmy, looks like we are back in the lead for Cameron Robinson.
James Smith, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: I would be careful about saying that anyone is in the lead. Bama and LSU are in a battle here. Let me say this...Cam was extremely impressive Friday night. So impressive that he narrowed the gap on Leonard as the number 1 prospect in the state. He is that good.

I know that there are multiple WR positions, but to say they are completely different and that Noil wouldn't have competition from the 4 other WRs being taken in LSUs class is a joke.

Btw, I guess Dhaquille decommited after the chat. Wanted to see the responses

This whole LA recruiting process is absolutely hilarious.

I see it ending for James Smith similarly to the collapse of Enron.

Alright, Aggie_2463, you apparently have entitlement issues and I’m not going to take any doodly-squat from you. You’ll get your Louisiana recruiting fix when I get darn good and ready to post it, and from now on you better have a more respectful attitude. I have enough trouble dealing with my relatives who have the nerve to think that at midday on Tuesdays I have more important things to do than follow football and post on TexAgs. Sometimes I get squeezed more than Paris Hilton in a frat house.

Damn, this Smith cat takes the term "blind homer" to an entirely new level.

He actually contradicts himself in the same breath and then explains why he doesn't really believe himself.
