Keith Law has a new article up with early rankings for 2013 draft prospects. He has Kohl at number 8.

Stewart is committed to Texas A&M to play quarterback but should never set foot on campus, not with a 92-95 mph fastball that has touched 97 and feel for both a slider and changeup.

Hopefully, that fastball ends up in an A&M uniform instead.

If he is a Top 10 pick, go pro. Take the money and have most all of your finances taken care of you for the rest of your life while getting paid to play a sport. Come back to college if it doesn't work out.

Kohl himself is probably not affluent. And how affluent is his family?

Would he even play before his senior year? I haven't watched tape on him but I know Manziel and Davis are pretty solid.

He is pretty damn good. Don't think there is a college in the country that wouldn't take him. TOS is laughable for having him so low. Great vision, solid decision making and has rare touch on his deep ball.

IF he's a legit top 10 MLB pick he absolutely has to go pro in baseball. The chance to become an instant millionaire can't be passed up. College football will always be there if it doesn't pan out. I wish the kid the best

^ for sure and I think though everyone knows this. That's the reason Sumlin recruited Kenny Hill. This could work out ala Mark Ferris or Bandon Weeden though for Kohl sake I hope he makes it in the show.

If you think Kenny Hill is in any way a backup plan, you just haven't watched him enough. He is the real deal.

But I don't mean to disparage Kohl. I haven't seen him play other than highlights, but as many have repeatedly pointed out : private schools vs 5A football is not even close.
Dragon stadium is right up the street so I have had the opportunity to see Kenny play extensively, & everyone around here is very excited to see him as a senior. From a personal perspective, I can tell you that Kenny is more polished at this point than Chase Daniels, Greg McIlroy , or C. Ponder (who is starting for the Vikings) were, so I am very optimistic that Kenny will be a star before he leaves CS.

I wouldn't blame Kohl for going with baseball for the sole reason of not having to worry about concussions and head injuries the rest of his life. If you have the choice, make more money in the MLB and protect your head.

As much as I would love to see Kohl on campus (playing both sports) you CAN'T pass up top 10 MLB money.. Like many have already said, of baseball doesn't work out he can take his millions and come back and try and play college football and gain a degree. Kenny Hill is a great QB and might be starting over Kohl someday at A&M if Kohl stays, but personally in my opinion Kohl is a special kind of talent that we don't want to get away from us. Some people just don't understand how rare Kohl's abilities are. They really need to watch closely to his highlights. The way he places the ball effortlessly to his targets is a NFL kind of talent. Tom Rosselly, the former A&M QB coach who coached Brett Favre, Warren Moon and many good ones offered Kohl as a soph after right watching him live for the first time in a summer A&M camp. We definitely want him to stay. Just saying, lol.

No, as a true Aggie, you don't want him to stay if he is going to be paid that much money to play baseball. A true Aggie wants what is best for the kid and with that kind of money, it's baseball, not Texas A&M.

He would make an incredible QB for us no doubt, but saying that the best thing for him is to come to A&M and sit on the bench for a few years before playing instead of making millions of dollars is incredibly selfish.

Wow! That's super cool for Kohl. I wish him well no matter what road he chooses.

Hill and Stewart are both talented dual sport guys. If one goes baseball, we r still covered. That Is most important.

Skdeford, money isn't everything. If Kohl wants to go down that path to play baseball, then of course, I wish the best for the kid and will root for him all the time. Calling me selfish and not a true aggie is, well, a little uncalled for. Yes I don't have my agtag but I am an A&M student.

Besides what would make you think he'll sit on the bench for a few years? He could start all four years or one year. We'll never know. Maybe it's a little selfish to want him to stay, but if he chooses another path then I wish him the best of luck. He's a great talented player either way. Although it does sound like you want him to choose baseball instead of Aggieland. Just saying.

Khol says he wants to come down here and lead the team. Honestly, it will be exciting no matter what he does. If he goes MLB, there's always a chance for him to come be our Weedon.

Pitching is way less wear and tear on the body for a lot more money than football. Take the money and if pitching doesn't workout go the Weinke/Weeden route.

But there is no glory in the minors. Crappy clubhouses, few guarantees. Even top picks often languish for years.
College is a fun experience. When you say affluent family and likely not wealthy, it 'may' have meaning.
No they may not be millionaires, but they are not maybe in any great need.
Check jeff samardzija. He played football at ND, THEN QUICKLY became a starting pitcher for the Cubs. He's done quite well, the other route. And spent little time in the minors.

We'll have to wait and see truly where he gets picked and the money that is really there. At his age, he will spend MANY seasons in the minors.

He would spend many seasons in the minors....with millions in the bank.

Would Jordan Chambless go back and take that offer out of HS if he could do it all over again?

I'd rather see Kohl do what he loves, even if it meant he followed the Charlie Ward model - passing up tons of money in one sport to follow his heart in the other.

Now if baseball is that sport, hell yeah, take the money. If it's not, don't do yourself the disservice of selling out.

All things equal in terms of his passion, the MLB seems too hard to pass up. More long-term potential money, money sooner, and likely to be in better physical shape when he retires.

"Affluent family" did not get that way by turning down millions.

Pro baseball genererally means more years earning pro sports bucks, but the lifestyle is more draining.

Lots more time on the road every season, lots more season, spring training away from home.

Smaller stadium capacity, less aggregate hype per game (World Series excepted). Less exciting game, frankly than football.

College baseball stars? Couple amateur groupies
College QB star? MANY YOUNG AMATEUR GROUPIES
Pro football star - MANY "PRO" GROUPIES
Pro baseball star - FEW "PRO" GROUPIES

I could make the argument to Kohl to play Aggie football based on the sheer 4-year thrill of the experience.

Let's see here:
- $ millions guaranteed when he's 18 in a relatively low injury sport (yes he's a pitcher but compared to football). He'll have the opportunity to move up and can make more money than any other sport by the time he's 25.

OR

-Go to college where he sits on the bench for a few years and maybe sees the field his RS JR year, at best. He may not pan out, could have a career ending injury, etc.
-If he's good enough (no telling), he gets drafted (probably not in the first round). If he's a first rounder, maybe he makes a million his first year. Probably somewhere farther down though. And then you have to work into the starting spot, all this while fending off other guys and injury. And then maybe you make as much as you would playing baseball if you make it to the Show.

You can always go the Brandon Weeden route if you wash out of the Minors.

To the casual observer, you'd be crazy to not go the quick money route. (See Adam Dunn)

Everything I have read suggests he is more interested in a full college life, including football/baseball, at Texas A&M. He is a pure bred Aggie and wants to experience the whole thing while getting an excellent education. I for one can hardly wait to see him pitch. Reminds me of the first game I saw with Granger when he threw a 1 hitter his freshman year (to the best of my now flawed memory anyway).

BPT, I know your job as a Sip is to try and sheet all over Ag recruits when you can, but I'll give you the perspective here:

The word is that Kohl very much wants to come to college. He doesn't want to risk becoming an Athlete that gets hurt with nothing to lean on. He'd rather take the scholarship, improve as a player, up his stock, and then declare. If he gets hurt, then at least he'd have a degree (his mindset).

Someone close to him, many say his brother, just want him to take the money and go. They're banking on Kohl being successful at the next level and not getting hurt. However, if Kohl gets hurt early on up there, he'd risk losing many opportunities he would have in college.

Right now, Kohl has been very open about the fact that he WANTS and WILL come to Aggieland AT THIS TIME. His words were something like "If something comes up that makes me think, I'll think about it, but right now, I'm set for college."
