This is an e-mail I got from a friend of mine who is in OKC for the tourny. He wanted me to share it with Texags and publicly extend his gratitude to Mr. Atchley.
A revealing story about Okie vs. Texas hospitality
We left DFW on Friday morning, dressed in Aggie attire, for Oklahoma City to
see the Men's Basketball Tournament and found out after we attended Session
3 that the hotel had canceled our room for Friday and Saturday nights as
well as charged us $200 for not showing up for our Thursday night
reservation, which we canceled mid-day Monday. Our discussion with the
assistant manager (Josh) led nowhere since he wouldn't even consider there
was a mistake on their end and kept repeating there was nothing he could do
to refund us the $200. About the time he insinuated that we probably
financially NEEDED the $200 and were more than likely making up the story
about canceling the room to get the refund, a gentleman who was checking in
at the time decided to weigh in with the manager on the lack of customer
concern he was observing.
This gentleman knew we were Aggies, told us he had an affiliation with UT
and then spent the next half hour helping us reason with the manger
(impossible), making phone calls to customer service, and aiding us in any
way he could (helping my wife remain calm and collected). About the time we
parted ways we learned his affiliation with Texas was through his son, #32
Connor Atchley.
Alma Mater aside, courtesy and respect of this nature make me proud to be
Texan.
P.S. Keep your distance from Amerisuites by the Airport, OKC.
