I doubt that's entirely true. My take...

-Pastner was NEVER on Byrne's list.
-Buzz was approached but Byrne didn't linger because of $.
-I don't think Marshall was officially approached, I think he responded to internet rumors and "removed himself from consideration."
- I think Boyle is still an option. Of course he's going to get a deal offered from CU, he earned a raise based on his season. But if Byrne decides he's the guy, I think we would stand a very good chance of getting him.

Buzz -

Its well known that he was at the top of the list and the money didnt work out.

Pastner -

Pastner said he did not speak directly with Texas A&M about the Aggies' job opening, but someone connected to the program did reach out to him.

Boyle getting a raise from CU still doesn't preclude us from getting him. He's getting a deserved boost, but it will be an offer on the table that he could hold out signing until this is done, if we are telling him we are interested.

at least byrne can now truly claim a nation wide search for one of his coaches. he won't be able to use the name at the top of my list, or the one name that kept coming up line though.

Avoiding people that 'may' leave eventually is a bad idea. We still don't have a strong history, but if we can string this along a bit longer, we end up with a solid 20 yr history and maybe we get a decent tourney run or 2. Then we can eventually hire an Ag that has proven himself. He could stay long term. Never take a secondary option just because the primary would leave in 4 yrs.
Ultimately, the best option is to hire someone older (like Sherman) that doesn't need to run up the ladders to be happy. But the timing and the person have to be right. I don't see that person out there. He can't be Knight old or similar. Maybe someone 55 or so.

If Marshall really did remove himself from consideration that is very sad. I would think our bball program was nationally important enough currently for a guy like him to leave Wichita St.

OK from BZ. I thought he got all his info from texags. So we have actually contacted over 20 coaches and they have all said stick it.

BZ is not the best source.
