What is his buyout and salary at Indiana?

He is great coach but obviously he inherited a program at Indiana that is in shambles thanks to Kelvin Sampson.

He was brilliant at Marquette. Recruited and developed Dewayne Wade. Even Buzz Williams spent a year or two under him before getting the HC position.

You would think he would want to get out of Indiana before it gets even worse.

this is why I'm in favor of promoting an assistant (or even calling him interim) and seeing how it goes, because a lot of good coaches might be at the end of their line (I'm thinking Weber @ Illinois, Crean @ Indiana) and A&M would be a hell of a soft landing, much like Paul Hewitt got to George Mason this year.

Tom Crean averaged 20 plus wins a year at Marquette from 99-08.

Won the Big East Conference Championship in 2003 and took them to the Final 4 that same year.

Made 6 NCAA Tournament appearances in his tenure.

This is the guy.

Yea Indiana wants Brad Stevens. Tom surely sees his future in Bloomington fastly coming to an end regardless if they want Brad Stevens or not.

The IU folks are just waiting for Crean to struggle this year so they can jump on golden boy Stevens.

Crean walked into a total mess at IU but with Stevens down the road, I do not think the boosters have the patience.

Gee if Im a 2%er I would hate to know what many of you on here are since I attend every game.

Maybe Crean would get the same gut feeling as Turgeon and come to A&M for a $1.8 million salary.

Hey guys, I'm a Marquette grad and season ticket holder that went to school with D-Wade. When I saw the "Buzz to A&M" threads and tweets start popping up, I laughed a bit. For starters, it'd take $4M in the first year just to talk to him. Second, he wouldn't be interested in talking to anyone that wasn't the absolute perfect fit. If he leaves, it will be for a traditional powerhouse. Kansas, UNC, UCLA, somewhere that basketball is the lifeblood of the program (like it is at Marquette). My guess is there probably aren't more than 10 jobs he'd leave for. Oklahoma wasn't one. Arkansas wasn't one. And A&M isn't one, as much as fans might like to believe otherwise.

But seeing this thread, Crean to A&M? Jeez, this is either the height of basketball ignorance or fan self-delusion. Crean only left Marquette because he believed that Indiana was in the center of a fertile recruiting hotbed where he could get the five-star prospects that eluded him at Marquette (despite how good he became, Wade was only rated a 3-star coming out). And Indiana understood that after Sampson, it would take years before they saw any real results. But the results are coming. Look at their recruiting in the next few years. 5-star center Cody Zeller in 2011. 5-star forward Hanner Perea and 5-star point guard Kevin Ferrell in 2012. Two more 5-stars in 2013, another two in 2014, he's even got commits already for 2015. It has taken Crean a few years, but he has superstar class after superstar class lined up for the next 5 years. In addition, he's at one of the six biggest schools in NCAA history. He won't leave unless they force him out, and considering the recruiting classes he has coming in, there's no way they want him to leave, not even for a mid-major coach who's never done it at the highest level -- Stevens at Butler has been great, but not the consistency Indiana is looking for which Crean showed at Marquette in C-USA when they were getting 6 bids a year and in the Big East as well.

Maybe a guy like Shaka Smart would come for 1.5 a year. Maybe Stew Morrill, you already know he can succeed with Aggies. Possibly raid Wichita State again, this time for Gregg Marshall. But you've already conceded that Buzz isn't coming. Don't delude yourselves into thinking you can get Crean. You may as well try to get Coach K away from Duke.

And keep in mind with such a huge student and alumni base this message board gets way more traffic than almost every other college board in the country...so there will be random people saying random things, some of which will be quite silly.

Padre, go ahead and call it like you see it, but I'm telling you, you have a better chance of getting Roy Williams. Crean is a Midwest guy who got one of the biggest jobs in college hoops. Unless you change your name to Kansas, it's not happening.

If Crean doesn't get them to the NCAAs next year, they will fire him for Stevens.

They do not have the patience to wait any longer with Stevens right there.

Worked with Tom and had alot of McDonalds together years ago. Good Friend, good recruiter and good coach. I tried to get him here when they hired Billy. It worked out well for both.

A. Buzz would rather be at A&M than Marquette. We just aren't willing to over pay him like y'all are.

B. Indiana fertile recruiting grounds? Ok, but not compared to Texas.

C. Crean gets canned if he doesn't make the tournament this year.

Marquette alum living in DFW...Tom Crean is a very interesting case study in coaching. He's been a head coach for 11 years, and take away his Final Four season (which All-World D-Wade was largely responsbile for), and he's won 1 NCAA tournament game in an 11-year head coaching career. His resume is very suspect after further investigation.

He does have a lot of talent coming into Indiana in the next 2 recruiting classes, but thus far his time at IU has been a disaster - and the truth of the matter is he didn't have many shackles on him due to the Sampson fiasco. (One scholarship taken away for a year and a limit on the amount of recruiting phone calls IU could make for 1 year - no post-season/TV play bans)

Buzz Williams would be a HOME RUN hire for A&M - but all indications are that he is really happy at Marquette. MU is a basketball CRAZY school, and has great facilities, and GREAT funding - as it has to - since there is no football. Milwaukee is also a better city than most who have never been would think. The winter weather sucks, and the girls aren't too pretty either...but beyond those two negatives - there are a lot of positives to being head coach of basketball at MU.

So..if A&M doesn't get Buzz (which I don't think it will), that certainly shouldn't be an indictment of the appeal of the A&M position. Think it has a lot of appeal to Buzz, and should nationally as well - but sometimes people are just very happy in their current situation and don't see the grass being greener on the other side. Buzz Williams is probably one of the few people left that has gratitude and appreciation for what he does have - and isn't consumed with what he doesn't have. MU is VERY lucky to have Buzz.
