from what i've heard and read, milan is mostly skip-able. i think the last supper is the only thing of real note to see. also, i think the duomo is nice.

Not a whole lot in Milan IMO but there is plenty of shopping. The poster above referring to the last supper and the duomo is talking about Florence FYI.

No, the last supper is in Milan, at the Santa Maria delle Grazie convent.

And the Milan cathedral is supposed to be pretty cool. It was in the process of being completed for almost 600 years and is the fourth largest cathedral in the world. I understand the duomo in Florence is a great sight to see, as well.

last supper is good but the milan duomo (each major city in italy has a duomo so yes there's one in florence as well) is definitely worth it. you can walk up among the spires and the roof - super cool. you can walk up the duomo in florence but it's just a small viewing area - in milan you could just hang out up there all afternoon!

Was just in Milano this past last February. A couple of days is about good.

1. The Duomo Square is an absolute must see. Also the Galleria has lots of good shopping.

2. The Fashion District is a must. If you goto Via Spiga and Via Monte Napoleone (and other surrounding streets/vias) you will find lots of houte couture. Can do lots of window shopping.

3.If you are there on Saturday there is a huge outdoor market. Cannot remember which via it is located.

Was also there at the end of January.

The cathedral is something to see, there are lots of old buildings and the Sforza castle is something to see. However, I believe everything could be done in one day, Venice isnt far away and Trenitalia offers good train rates.

Oh yeah the main train station is pretty kickass, you should go there just to look at it even if you dont ride the train. If you are facing the rails, on the right side at the end of all the tracks there is a model of the train station, its by the bathrooms and police station (in the train station).

Outside of downtown its a typical big dirty european city with a lot of postwar (ugly) buildings.

If you get a chance, I recommend a visit to the town of Bergamo, which is a 15 minute train ride away. The upper city, behind the city walls, is a very charming place and the cuisine is excellent.

Ah Milan. I have a pothead cousin who, as we were looking at The Last Supper, asked me "who painted this?" I incredulously replied, "Da Vinci."

She responded, "Oh. Is that him in the middle?"

My wife and I were there in October and basically agree with everything said already, see the Duomo, Sforza castle (there's a nice park behind it), the last supper (book tickets ahead of time) and the galleria.

I liked the city because it didn't feel anything like Florence which seems to cater to people who travel in to see the museums. Milan is just a normal big city, mostly rebuilt after WWII, with great shopping and food.

We just ended our 12 day Italy trip in Milan. Milan was by far the biggest disappointment (only disappointment really) of all the towns we hit. Like the above posters stated, highlights are the Duomo, the Last Supper, and (if you are interested) the window shopping.
The outdoor cafes and restaurants around the Duomo were typical big city restaurant food, way overpriced and lacking real flavor.

I think if it is the only town you go to in Italy it will probably be a cool experience. If you can extend your time a travel around, you will really enjoy other areas. They seemed more authentic and offered really cool experiences.

You should look into taking the train from Genoa down to the Cinque Terre. We had so much fun in these small coastal towns. The towns were really cool. Each town is connected by small train stations and hiking trails. We did two of the hikes and saw some of the most breathtaking scenery. It was also fun to watch the locals cliff dive and just live.

In '97 took a train from Nice to Monte Carlo, Cinque Terra and Genoa. Great scenic beauty at all stops and points between.

Good cheap eats can be found at a place called Luini's it's behind the big shopping center next to the Cathedral. Just ask around or follow the line out the door.
