I'm getting married this weekend.

Due to our work calendars, we are going to have to put off having a real honeymoon a few months. We are now looking at going in August and she wants to go to Bora Bora. I think she saw a picture of the over-water bungalows at some point and got hooked on that idea.

I did a little research on Bora Bora and the French Polynesian about 8 months ago (before it became evident our honeymoon would have to be put on hold). I've done very little since.

Do y'all have any thoughts in general of the area?

And then specifically any recommendations on where to stay, who to book through and any other excursions?

I've read that April - August is the time to go, with the crowds growing as summer progresses. What have been your experiences?

Thanks. I figure this will be my next project with all this wedding stuff behind us.

Had a buddy who went there last year for his honeymoon...said it was great, but for 10 days you run out of things to do. Also very expensive.

I have heard Moorea is the place to be... Bora Bora 2nd. FP is really expensive compared to Fiji. But Fiji doesn't have over water bungalows.

Aug/Oct are some of the best months to be there... November is the start of the rainy season.

We honeymooned in FP back in May 05. Stayed on Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and Rangiroa. There should still be past topics on here that I've posted and commented on if you search for them.

BB is a beautiful and romantic place. All of FP is really. But the idea of being on a little remote strip of an island (motu) and looking back at the main island of BB is perfect honeymooning. BB does not have a lot of stuff to do if you are there for a long time, but if you're just wanting to hang out on a beautiful beach and spend quality time with your new spouse , then it's hard to imagine a better spot.

As for recs on places to stay, look into the Pearl resort, Intercontinental Resort, and Le Meridien. We actually stayed at the Intercontinental on the main island of BB but wished we would have stayed on one of the motu resorts (probably would/should have chose Le Meridien). The new Intercontinental on the motu was still being built in 05.

Thanks. We'd actually discussed spending time on a couple of islands, including Moorea.

Any other advice on Bora Bora or Moorea?

For Moorea, we were very happy with the Intercontinental Resort.

Honeymoon is booked for August. We're splitting time in Moorea and Bora Bora. Staying a night in Tahiti, but not planning on having time to really do anything there. Not a big sacrifice I hear.

We're staying at the Intercontinental in Moorea and the Hilton in Bora Bora.

Have excursions planned in Moorea - 4x4 excursion, Tiki Village Dinner, meeting the dolphins. Any other recommendations for Moorea? Dinner recommendations?

Bora Bora we have overwater bungalows and plan on taking it a little easier as it is the last leg of the trip. We will probably have a spa day here and do some Snorkling and other water activities. We may do Bloody Mary's one night. Trying to figure out the best way to make recommendations and the timing of the ferry from the Hilton to the main island. Any other recommendations?

If you haven't found it yet, Tripadvisor has a GREAT travel forum. They have a specific board for FP and each island/area. I haven't spent much time on this particular board so not sure how many experts post on it, but the Fiji board is really great. Based on the number of posts, it is by far the most visited South Pacific board, so I am sure there are plenty of people that can answer questions.

I here ya CDUB, but the traffic on that site is amazing... you can get multiple answers within the same day you post a question by people that have gone over and over or who actually live there. You can get copies of menus, current prices, etc.
