I'm headed to Paris the week of Thanksgiving for two days. I'm going to hit up the big things (Arc de, Eiffel, Louvre), but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a couple of other things or cheap places to stay.

Just as an fyi, I will return to Paris in the future, this is just a quick stop by...so don't say "that's not enough time for Paris".

Thanks in advance.

Montmartre and Sacre Coeur . . . great views of the city and to just walk around . . . the Louve is great but I enjoyed the Musee d'Orsay much more. I have no recommendations on places to stay as I was with a school group and we stayed way outside the city.

Do a river tour. yeah, its touristy but its a great way to see a lot of the city and get some history in a 90 minute time period.

I would recommend staying in the St. Germain area as there is a lot within walking distance. Believe it or not, there is a Best Western that is in a perfect location.

Like someone else said, Musee D'Orsay is great. I'd probably pick that over the Louvre.

Rick Steves has some great advice about getting a museum pass - it lets you cut to the front of the line (see http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/museum.htm for more museum pointers).

We went in the spring and used http://www.homeaway.com/ to find a place to stay. We ended up on the border of the 6th and 7th arrondissements, a few blocks south and east of the Musee D'Orsay. It was around 100 euros a night, had a little kitchen, etc. The friends we met up with stayed at the Academie Hotel Saint Germain (32 rue des Saints Peres, Paris, 75007), and they liked it a lot.
Not sure what they paid.

If you're into foie gras, head up to the 17th to Sud-Ouest Monceau (8 rue Messonier,75017). Each table has it's own toaster so you can toast your bread before slathering the foie gras on it. There was some deluxe apetizer that came with three different kinds that was out of this world. The duck confit was good, but the cassolet was dynamite.

Have fun.

Rick Steves has 1-day and 2-day itineraries for Paris. I did the 1-day itinerary my first time through Paris and it was a great way to see some of the major sights. Very efficient, but allows enough time to semi-enjoy things.

we stayed at the hotel abbatial st. germain. the people at the front desk were very nice and always helpful. the room was clean, and had a great view of the small cathedral across the street.

I thought the Louvre was very overrated. I loved the The Tuileries and had lunch there a few times.

Fat Tire Bike Tour is one of our favorite things to do and knocked off most of the touristy spots

cheap and great place to stay - Best Western Le Nouvel Orleans. The price is right, the subway is right out the front door, its a Best Western so you know what you're getting.

as far as dining: just one word, pronounced: le-petee-bagay. it works for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and it will never be as good anywhere else as it is in Paris.

to do: stroll the Champs Elysess. its free and "cultural".

I stayed at Holiday Inn Repbulic once . . . very central and easy to get to the major sites . . . found a really cheap room online. Looks like it is now a Crowne Plaza hotel.

If you have enough time, I'd recommend seeing the Sainte-Chapelle. So beautiful! If I recall correctly, it's a short walk from the Notre Dame.

Also, I highly recommend dinner at Le Florimond. Impeccable service with fantastic food. We found the tip from a Rick Steves Paris book.

Definitely go to Sacre Couer. It was our favorite experience.

And have at least one meal at Chartiers. Get there earlier because the line can get very long.

We stayed at Novetel. We got it on Priceline for $50 a night. It is a $150-200 a night hotel. Very nice and in a great area.

The flat I rented this year was one block from Sainte-Chapelle. I can vouch that it is about a 5-10 minute walk to Notre Dame.

keep in mind that in late Novemeber you aren't going to have a whole lotta sunlight during the day.

I just got back from Paris, Unfortunately, the Catacombs are closed indefinitely due to vandalism.

I also recommend the Fat Tire Bike tours. We took the evening tour, which also includes a one hour river cruise with free wine. We had a blast.

that blows. i remarked at the time how cool it was that it was so accessible and open to the public. very disappointing that some had to spoil it for all.
