Going to be in Salt Lake City with my wife and 11 year old daughter from Friday-Sunday in a few weeks. What is there to do?

Go see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They perform on Sunday morning for their TV show, Music and the Spoken Word. It is worth going to see even if you are not Mormon or religious. They are good!

If you have time to go to Park City, it's worth checking out. They have a few fun things: alpine slide, alpine, zip line, rock climbing, and a few other things like that.

Go to Olympic Park and ride the bobsled course.

Go to Rice-Eccles Stadium and see the Olympic Torch and visitor center.

Eating:

Go to Navajo Hogan and get a Navajo Taco.

Go to the Blue Plate Diner for breakfast or lunch or any other meal. It was featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives."

Go to Hires Big-H. It's the home of Hires Root Beer. Try their fry sauce.

That should get you started. Feel free to ask any other questions. My fiancee went to undergrad there and lived there for a few years afterwards. We're getting married there in January. (And just because everybody asks, no, she's not Mormon. )

I agree with Jackal on the Park City and Olympic Park recommendations. I haven't spent too much time in Salt Lake but I do recommend eating at the Blue Iguana Mexican restaurant. http://www.blueiguanarestaurant.net/

Temple Square is kind of a neat place to check out as well. I'm not Mormon but there's a lot of cool architecture and what not.

I haven't been there, but I hear that Antelope Island State Park is pretty cool. It's an island in the Great Salt Lake.

Are you going to be there during the weekend of July 24th? That's a HUGE holiday in Utah (Pioneer Day)

Thanks for the help. We love going to college campuses (just got back from a Chicago trip where we went to Madison and South Bend). Is it worth going to the BYU campus or Utah State?

BYU is about a 40 minute drive from SLC and is a pretty area. Ogden is about a 45-60 minute drive. If you really like college campuses, it might be worth it.

You can check out a few campuses in SLC, too. University of Utah has a nice campus, and Westminster College is nice, too.

U of U has a nice botanical garden on their campus that is worth taking a walk through.

I would also recommend heading up to Snow Bird and taking some time there.

He's right, Ogden is that far away but Ogden has Weber State Univ there. I am in grad school at Utah State and it's in Logan, UT, which is about 90 minutes or so away.

It's an ok campus. It sits right at the base of the mountains. The football stadium is small and really nice. You can see mountains from both sides of it. If you do go to Logan, to see USU, I would recommend getting the Aggie Ice Cream. It's like the big thing here and it's great!

Let me know if you have any questions about Northern Utah (north of Salt Lake). When are ya'll going to Utah?

This is a huge image but kind of shows the campus (minus the football stadium). Plus this is taken in the summer so it shows no snow.

Snowbird is awesome and sits at around 8100 feet. They have some fun summer activities. But if ya'll wanted to go to a summer/winter like place, I would discourage going to snowbird and go to Park City instead. They have the same things for summer activities (alpine slide, zip line, etc) but I just think it would be more fun for your kid and for ya'll to go to Park City.

Park City is more of a city and has a real nice downtown Main Street area with fun shops and restaurants. Snowbird is just a resort but still has lots of outdoor things to do.

I knew that. I'm not sure why I typed that. Utah State is actually a nice campus. That's the one I've been to, not Weber State. Though I have been through Ogden.

you can head down the interstate to BYU, then cut through Provo Canyon to return to SLC the long route. Bridal Veil Falls are beautiful.

On the way back, you can swing by Sundance and Park City for dinner..

i live in salt lake. all the advice given is good. For sure hit up park city. The biggest tourist thing in salt lake is temple square, even if you are not Mormon it is an amazing place. If you like college campuses then for sure do the U of U, and BYU. They are close enough to each other. Like it was mentioned before Utah state is kinda far, but if that is your think logan is a very pretty place.

The Temple Square is interesting but far from an "amazing place".

i guess it depends on your likes. I thought it was pretty amazing it took them 40 years to build that temple. They made it out of granite stones from the mountains. It took 4 yoke of oxen four days to bring one stone down from the canyon. Hence the 40 years, and hence the amazing.

My wife is from SLC and we just got married there about three weeks ago. She would discourage going to the BYU campus as "that is just lame." But definitely go the "U" campus. Go Utes! 13-0!

If you are into golf go play at Thanksgiving Point. It's an award winning course.

Don't waste your time on antelope island . . . it's not that exciting. And you will be attacked by mosquitoes.

Top recommendations would be snowbird, park city, emigration canyon, bridal veil falls, and timpanogas cave. Just because it's a major landmark go see the temple square but you won't be able to get into some parts of it unless you are mormon. The Cathedral of the Madeline is also a very beautiful place and one of the first churches in Utah.

Food recommendations . . . Ruth's Diner for breakfast/brunch in emigration canyon, The Red Iguana (it's much better than the blue iguana), The Pie, The Red Rock Brewing Company and Crown Burger (mmmm the crown burger with pastrami is so good).

Have fun and enjoy the weather!

I was there a few years ago & had a tasty meal at Red Iguana. They have all 7 mole's from Mexico, which is very rare for a restaurant.

fwiw, if you are into golf, skip Thanksgiving Point. It may win awards, but it is a flat links course in an area that has many cooler "mountain" courses..
