My wife and I are going on a 7 day cruise out of Galveston on the Carnival Conquest. Our stops are at Key West, Freeport, Bahamas and Nassau, Bahamas.

Any suggestions for things to do at those locations. We looked through the excursions that Carnival has lined up, but didn't really like any of them.

I tried using the search function, but didn't find anything or was either doing it wrong.

My wife and I are going on the same cruise except in September. I'm going to parasail in Key West. That may be worth looking into. Enjoy and be sure to post when you get back.

I am heading out on a cruise in 12 days(same boat too). Leaving out of Galv but stopping in Grand caymans,Jamaica and Cozumel.

We are doing the stingray bar in GC and Ziplining in Jamaica

I must say the excursions dont do much for me either. not alot of options.

If you haven't already, you might want to check out www.cruisecritic.com. I'm always able to find good info on their Ports of Call forum.

We went on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas in April & visited Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios Jamaica. Thoroughly enjoyed Cayman, not so much Ocho Rios. Definitely visit Cruisecritic.com and look at the Boards/Ports of Call before you cruise. We booked stingray city thru Moby Dick Tours and had a fabulous time. We were in the afternoon tour so snorkeled first and went to stingray city last. There were no other boats there at the time so we had it to ourselves. The crew was great. Highly recommended! We booked snorkeling & Dunn's River Falls thru the ship and it was a cattle call and not nearly as much fun as Cayman. If you haven't done the falls beware...it is quite strenuous but worth it.
Best advice is to read the boards to find which excursions have the best comments and book before you go. You'll save money and have a great time.

We just returned today from the same cruise, let me get things back to a little bit of normal here and I will give you'll a complete review of the week later this evening.

Let me begin by saying....if you have never been on The Conquest, you are in for the time of your life. If you sailed on her before, then get ready, the staff and crew are even better than before. The weather was fantastic all week and the largest wave we had all week was about 2 feet. You could have been out in the middle of the gulf on a flat bottom boat. So that you'll understand the story, our entire family was onboard (31 of us) as we celebrated my niece and nephews h/s graduation. Be sure to check your Carnival Capers (daily newsletter) for what's going on where on the ship each day....
Now for the rest of the story.....1st things 1st, get to the cruise terminal as early as you can on Sunday morning, we arrived around 10a and were some of the first ones to check in. The sooner you arrive, the sooner you will get on the ship. For starters on Sunday, once onboard the buffet is open and you can have lunch on the ship (you have paid for it, so EAT) There are several places I would suggest you consider and make them DO NOT MISS places to visit.
SUNDAY....if all goes well on EMBARKATION, you will leave Galveston around 4p. If you have early seating dinner (6:15p) then you will have about 2 hours before your first dinner (for the first night you can wear whatever you wore to the ship or you can change in "business casual". At this first dinner you will meet your waiter and have the 1st of 7 really nice dinners. Once in International Waters the Casino will open, it will be open until around 2a. No need to worry about getting to bed too early because Monday is a Day @ Sea.
MONDAY...Other than the onboard activities, you won't miss too much other than some sun, really good music (I will talk more on this later) and a few cold ones should you decide to. Each day they have a "Drink of the Day" and most of them are all some sort of fruity things (too sweet for me)! Monday evening is the 1st of two formal nights (you will see everything from shirt w/tie and slacks to tuxedos and evening gowns. I suggest the later if possible as they have numerous photography options with different backdrops nightly. The pictures are mostly 8x10 and run about $20 each but given the facts that you don't have to pay a sitting fee, you probably end up better off in the long run.....at least that is what the Mrs. told me all week as she purchased photos daily (a little over $300) for the week for us. Dinner on Monday features lobster. If I forget to mention, per the Mrs. if you like chocolate order the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake everytime you get a chance which will be everynight (it is found under the Carnival Classics section on the dessert menu.
Tuesday.....This will your stop in Key West, FL. I would suggest parasailing by booking early with fury water adventures, they are near the dock and about 1/2 the price of the onboard prices. As far as places that are Do Not Miss in Key West, I would say you have not done yourself justice if you don't visit Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Cafe on Duval St. (it is that one that started it all). The walk is about 6 blocks but you will see many souvenir shops along the way. Another do not miss is the Hoggs Breath Saloon, they are the opposite directions on Duval St. but worth the walk. On the way to Margaritaville you will pass The Bull (2/1 margarita's) and you may have the oppurtunity to find out where Elvis has been hiding all these years. Dinner back on the ship.
Wednesday......Freeport, Bahamas (Grand Bahama Island). Several things to do Freeport but you will need to catch a cab ($5pp) to Port Lucaya Shopping District. There are a couple of bars near the shopping area and one even has $2 Jose Cuervo shops, at last count we were at 37. Across the street from the shopping area is the Isle of Capri Casino and behind it is the public beach. If you go to the beach, ask a local "how do I get to Billy Joe's?" In the Bahamas you will be introduced to the Conch. We had the Conch Salad and it was awesome. Be sure to allow yourself time to get back to the boat as it about 10 miles from shopping area back to boat and the speed limit is like 40-45 mph.
Thursday.....Nassau, Bahamas, first off don't get hustled by the guy in the cruise terminal offering a Ferry Boat ride to Paradise Island ($3/pp), I suggest walking outside and catching a cab directly to the public beach where there is a large variety of water sports options (jet skis, banana boat rides, parasailing, or just laying out on the beach and the oppurtunity to go into some of the most beutiful water most have ever seen). As far as don't miss items in Nassau, sign up for the Atlantis Deep Water Swim w/ Dolphins, it is a little pricey ($199/pp) but my daughter and niece said their trip was complete once they had swam with the dolphins. The straw market is near the cruise terminal and then there is Senor' Frogs. I will leave it to the imagination, but by those that didn't swim with the dolphines and ended up at Senor' Frogs it was GREAT ! Once back on ship, formal night #2 awaits you. By this time the waiters know most guests by your first name and how you like your steak cooked. Did I mention they have multiple oppurtunities to take some really neat pictures and once back into International Waters the casino will reopen.
Friday/Saturday....hard to believe but only a couple of days left. Both Friday/Saturday are both days @ sea and by this time you have learned where most things are located on ship and probably learned how to take a short cut to get there. As I mentioned before re: music there is a guy onboard by the name of Tim Pierce, he plays an acoustic guitar and sings. He will comment that he doesn't know alot of Texas Country Music....yet (as he says), but he is really good. He plays each evening in the Sunflower Lounge and is a don't miss as far as things on the ship. I challenge you to strike up a conversation w/ him and mention you are from College Station. If you don't have a chance to catch him during a break or insert the words "Sweet Home College Station" when he sings Sweet Home Alabama. Because he will be reminded of our group if you mention to him College Station, TX. I'm certain he will have some stories to tell if you mention College Station. Unless things change in the next month or so, Chris will be your Cruise Director, he is really good and I would suggest not missing the welcome aboard show and also the Not So Newly Wed Game show. His staff of assistant's are also really good as well, there is Charli, Annie, Simon and Marcello and none of them speak Texan so just listening to them talk if fun in itself. I know you have to be as excited as we were for the date to get here but having planned ours for over 10 months, 7 days goes by in a hurry, so enjoy yourself.
I have most of the info from ship and if you would like we can visit more and perhaps I can answer any additional questions you might have. Have a Great Cruise and I hope to read your review of your trip in a month or so.

I am typing this from my laptop -while sitting on the front porch of a house I've rented for my family on the beach of Cayman Kai in Grand Cayman. I have done several dives in a variety of locations, but the best shallow water experience is with the sting rays at either Stingray City or the Sandbar (literally only 3 feet of clear water and white sand!)

Have done the visit many times over the past 20 years - and went there again this past Tuesday......still well worth it!

I would HIGHLY recommend it if you visit Cayman! No experience needed - great for all levels/ages.!

And if you're interested......currently.....great sunset....some heat lighting going off in the distance.....water is clear.....the beer is cold........Life is GOOD!

Tailg8tr, when we were on the Conquest in '06, we did the "swim with ray's excursion" and agree, really cool. However after Steve Erwin was hit I have no desire to be in the water with one again.

jaggiemaggie, my mom booked it for us. I'm guessing she went through Carnival's website. But I'd suggest taking a look at vacationstogo.com as well. They usually have pretty good rates on cruises.

Irwin's death was the result of a set of circumstances far far different from what is experienced with the rays here in Cayman. The risk is really really REMOTE......just not gonna happen.......

Anyone reading this and even considering the opportunity.....take it!

we did stingray city in GC, we did not go through cranival but booked our own private tour as we had a bunch of people. one of our guides actually got stung by a stingray, he slowly shuffled over to the boat with out making a sound so we wouldn't get freaked out. he was fine.

We just got back from Freedom of the Seas, but we went to some of the same places as the Conquest. In fact, we saw them many times in the water heading to and from ports.

We did the Dophin Cove in Grand Caymen. It was amazing. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has ever wanted to swim with dolphins. The turtle farm was included in the excursion and was very interesting.

We went scuba diving in Jamaica and had a good time. If we had to do it again we would dive in Grand Caymen or Cozumel.

We did Stingray Beach in Cozumel and had a fun time. You feed stingrays and then snorkel with them.

Since it was Royal Caribbean we went to Haiti as well. The excursions were not very good and we ended up just laying out on the beach.

I swam with the sting rays and had a blast! If you have the chance to do that do it!

I also did a submarine trip once and was bored the whole time...

Another thing I love to do is just go to the Margaritaville's and drink and relax. That is why your on vacation anyways!

Sneak all the booze you can on board. We did and saved an absolute ton of money, and didn't have any problems (just in case, tape a $20 to the outside of the sprite bottles or whatever you pour it in).

As far as packing, lay out everything you want to take, and actually bring half of it, that's probably all you'll need.

So did you just use sprite bottles to smuggle your booze on board? I was considering taking a 12 pack of coke and opening the end that isn't tear away and replacing the coke cans with beer cans. But then I was wondering how that would look on the boat. Do y'all think anyone would say anything?

We liked Cayman so much we are returning this year for 9 nights on Seven Mile beach... 2 more weeks!

I brought two bottles of liquor onboard my cruise.

I poured both the JD and the Rum into two water bottles and bagged them up.

make sure you also have a flask because its way too difficult to bring the alcohol up to the deck. Just be discreet if you are at the pool or the sundeck with your flask.

Also be sure to buy the unlimited soft drink and juice package which i will guess will run you $30.
With the card the waiters will bring you as many cokes as you would like and then you can fill it up discreetly with the liqour of your choice.
As long as you tip the waiter bringin your drink they arent gonna trip out too much.

i dont remember the beers being that expensive. I think it would be a waste of time to smuggle beer on board.

I'm going on the Carnival Conquest this next week to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Coz ...the same trip as Allen Honda took. Any other ideas or updates on things. We are also booked on the zipline in Jam. and the Stingrays. We plan to rent a Jeep at the other stop and drive around.

Do yall recommend a full suit, or just a sports coat at the dinners?

Thanks.

We got off the Conquest last Sunday from a 7-day cruise. The stops were in Key West, Freeport, and Nassau, however, I assume the dress code is the same. There was only two nights of "formal" dining. For the most part, all men wore ties for sure. There was a large variety of attire from sport jackets to a couple of guys with tuxedos. My suggestion is to go with whatever makes you comfortable.

The dining room staff were outstanding. We couldn't have had a better time. My suggestion is to take a camera to dinner. The wait staff will probably sing/dance for you all at least three nights.

Enjoy the trip.

Wet Wendy's in Coz is a good place to eat or enjoy a drink. Corona Beach on Coz is also good for sunning. I don't think they charge a cover to use their lounge chairs, just buy a drink. There is also an Amazing Race type of excursion where you get to go all over the island. I haven't done it, but I have heard it is interesting.

There is one other place to eat that I'll have to double check the name.

Anchor, I'll be on Conquest 9/18 doing your same itinerary, can't wait. We did the same cruise last year. In Grand Caymen I would definitely recommend Sting Ray City. We just found a tour after we got off the ship in port and haggled them down to 30 bucks a piece, well worth it. It included a couple snorkle stops and of course the sandbar where you can swim with and pet stingrays.

In Cozumel, I haven't been yet but have seen tons of good reviews for Nachi Cocum. It is an all inclusive resort that limits the number of people to 100/day, so it is very quiet. Another option would be to go to the state park Chankanaab. There is a small entrance fee but once inside you can find various vendors to do just about any watersports you like (snorkle, SCUBA, swim with dolphins, etc). We did some unlicenced SCUBA and loved it.

In Jamaica last year we took a shuttle to Doctor's Cave beach and had an ok time. If you just want to relax on the beach it works. The straw market shop owners are pretty pushy in Jamaica and will try to get you to follow them to their store. We're thinking about trying ziplining this time around.
