Seems like a pretty lame trip, eh? It makes for a great day-trip out of DFW.

The original plan called for Dinosaur Valley SP, Fossil Rim Wildlife Area, and Dublin for the Dr Pepper Plant. However, I was lazy in waking up and our trip left out the State Park.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Area

Our first stop was Fossil Rim. It is a little pricey from ~$10 - $25 per person depending on age and time of year. You will want to purchase the $7.95 bag of feed.

The area is a drive through safari. They have tons of exotics and because you can feed the animals, they like to come close to the cars. You can get great photos. Kids who love zoos will love this place.

It all starts at the visitor center where you pay your entrance fee and buy your animal feed.

Blackbuck

Wildebeest bucking

Addax. They say they have the largest breeding herd in the world.

You can feed the giraffes out of your hand.

Feed the zebras or they will eat your vehicle!

Gemsbok

Halfway through, they have a place with a restaurant, petting zoo, and some animals like ocelots and wolves!

We spent 3 hours there and had a blast. Then we went to Dublin

Dr. Pepper, TX

The Dr. Pepper Bottling Plant in Dublin is the only place in the world that still makes Dr. Pepper according to the original recipe. You can buy Dubin Dr. Pepper there, or you can be dedicated like my brother and trade in your empty refillable 10oz bottles for Dr. Pepper bottled in Dublin.

Crates upon crates of Dr. Pepper awaiting trade-ins. The bottles aren't made any more, so my brother buys his on e-bay. He found out I was going and sent me with all of his empties to trade them in. If you buy by the case, it is something like 40 cents a bottle.

They have an old fashion soda fountain with soda jerks who make you a Dr. Pepper, or my personal favorite, the Frosty Pepper, which is like a Dr. Pepper milk shake.

After I had my Frosty Pepper and my friend had her Dr. Pepper, we took a tour of the bottling plant. The tours are $2.50/person and you get a free Dr. Pepper during the tour.

The tour takes you through the plant and describes all the equipment. It ends in the museum which houses only 10% of their Dr Pepper memorabilia.

The 6 various drinks they bottle at the Dublin plant.

It was a great day trip for us. If you are looking to get out of the metroplex for the day, this is a trip that will not disappoint, unless you are a Pepsi drinker!

Wow! Dublin as a destination, that's a first.

I once saw a full grown bull buffalo get shot and killed in the middle of the street right in front of the DP plant by a bunch of rednecks hanging out of a pickup bed.

It's an interesting story but too long to type.

I stayed overnight at Fossil Rim when my daughter was 4 or so. It was really cool drinking a beer and watching all of the animals from several continents converge on the watering hole. However, the camp tents were not very comfortable (something my wife mentioned several times that night).

Hey, 90 Bull...we stayed in the camp tents and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was air conditioned and had a bath room--my kind of tent. What's not to like?

FYI, there is an excellent restaurant nearby at Rough Creek Lodge. There is also a state park at Glen Rose that has camping. You can also wade in the creek and see dinosour tracks. Cool.

I grew up in Dublin. Never thought I'd see the day it became an attraction.

I love stopping in Dublin and getting a frosty pepper. Plus, on a hot Texas summer day, it is the most refreshing thing out there.
