I have two days in Boston on a "long" layover. I have a hotel booked downtonw (sheraton). We fly in at 1 pm, on a Sunday, we have tickets to the Red Sox/Rangers game at 1:30 (we know we will miss some of it). We fly out the next day at 7 PM. My fiance/(wife at that point) has never been, I havent been since I was 12.

What should we do? We arent that big on museums but would like to see the main historic sites.

Walk the Freedom Trail and you'll hit all the main historic sites (or at least, most of them). There are some bars along the way to stop and quench your thirst.

My thirst is always welcome to the quenching. Are there any breweries (out of curiosity) in the downtown Boston area?

Not sure about that. This place is on the Freedom Trail, and claims to be the oldest continuosly-operating tavern in the country.

Also, the replica of the Cheers bar is near the Freedom Trail. It's not the original that Cheers was based off of, but it was built to look like the inside of the bar on the show.

In addition to the Freedom Trail, dinner in the Italian North District is a must!!

The Freedom Trail is great and Bell in Hand is a good bar. Lots of bars in the Fanueil Hall area.

Another vote for Freedom Trail.

John Hancocks Microbrew in Cambridge is great!

Freedom Trail (spend about half a day) and Fenway are the must sees. We enjoyed taking the T to Harvard as well and eating burgers at Bartley's.

Soak up Fenway and the area around it. Great stuff. Cask and Flagon is a good bar to drink at right behind the Monster.
