Grew up in Houston and never heard about or been to Canton. What goes on there? Do you just walk around? The only thing I'm told is there is fair-like food.

It's like a NASCAR event without the racing...... great place for people watching. It is kind of a State Fair atmosphere........ you'll be surrounded by mullets and t-shirt sips....... it's glorious.........

Would going from 10am to around 4ish be too long? The women folk in the Bible study are going and staying that long, I'm thinking I would be too bored by then...and I'm pretty excited about fair food..yum.

My grandparents have run a booth there for the past... well my whole life, so I've been there more times than I would like to remember. You CAN stand it, just find some "good" booths and stay there. You've got the antiques, and clothes and jewelry (for them women folk) but also you can find some nice deals on guns (usually classics). Of course, the gun thing could have changed with recent laws, but there is enough for a man to keep entertained. Also, across the highway is "dogtown" where you can find all sorts of animals, trying to be sold as pets. Dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and pretty much anything you can think of.

Changes? Nothing has changed in recent history so should still be there unless a local ordinance changed where the guns could be sold.

Here's a link for First Monday Canton -- it's what you're talking about.

A couple of suggestions:
1. If you plan to stay in Canton, make a reservation at least a month in advance.
2. Get there early. Lines for parking get long.
3. Wear good walking shoes.
4. Look for the Thrasher Woodcraft booth. The owner is from Paris, Tx. My wife and I have bought a couple of picnic tables from him -- good quality and reasonable prices.

I am a woman and went with a couple of other ladies and got bored of the shopping by the first day. The fair food is excellent though. Other than shopping, not a lot to do out there. People watching is great though with all the crazy women out there with their metal carts.

Horrible, horrible place. I don't even go over there is fear I will yell at someone. I have known too many people that come back from there with sick animals, puppies with parvo, etc.

Canton or as my brother and I used to refer to it: "The Six Flags of Junk".
