I'm planning on taking a trip up to Niagara Falls in August. I used to go all the time as a kid when we lived in Rochester, NY, but I haven't been since I was 10. I know there is a ton of great stuff to do (jet boat, behind the falls, etc), but I was wondering if anyone had some personal recommendations on hotels. I've read reviews on hotels.com and stuff, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any personal input. I'm looking for something on the Canadian side close to the Canadian falls, probably even a fallsview hotel. Any suggestions or reviews would be great, thanks!

I can't really help because the only time I've been there was on a day trip up from Rochester when I was there for work back in Sept. 2001. The Canadian side was nice.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites back in November - very convenient. The only two things we did not do which I wish we had done were the whitewater boardwalk and the jet boat trip. The interesting thing is that because they have built all the high rise hotels on the Canadian side, the mist veils the falls and a real clear view is few and far between that time of year. The air stays trapped. I do not know if it changes in the summer.

I was at the Embassy Suites in June 2005, we were pretty high up and the view was fine.

When we booked the hotel, we called ahead to ask for specials and ended up getting a nice package setup with a fallsview jacuzzi suite and a couple of meals thrown in.

they have a package deal now, where you can get discount tickets to Maid of the Mist, Journey Behind the Falls, and others for one price, it also includes coupons for other attractions (some of the historic homes and power plants) and bus transportation on the people mover.

Was just there last week.

I recommend the Sheraton Fallsview. You can get a falls view room for about $200 Canadian per night. 2 minute walk to the falls from your room.

Remember you need a passport to drive or fly into Canada as of June 1 (right now only need passport to fly in).
