I've got two boys aged 13 and 10. We're already planning to go to Enchanted Rock (they love to climb and explore), Pershing museum and LBJ ranch.

Any other ideas or special events going on this weekend that would be good to see?

Can we take them to Luckenbach during the day? I can't imagine there's an age limit there, especially when they are with me, but doesn't hurt to know for sure.

IIRC, there is a WWII museum in Fredricksburg if you guys like that sort of thing...my son loved it.

edit: My bad...I think that's the Pershing museum you referred to.

That's it - the Nimitz Museum, and they have that cool new wing dedicated to the Pacific Theater of WWII as well.

I enjoyed it when I visited years ago.

Perdenales Falls is just East of Johnson City. LBJ State Park is just West of Johnson City. Johnson City is a pretty short drive from Fredericksburg and you could hit both parks for few hours of additional hiking.

You can take them to Luckenbach. This weekend is their "Mud Dauber Festival" so it will probably be more crowded than usual. Live music through the afternoon.

The Pioneer Cemetary is cool, so is the pioneer museum.

The WWII museum is really a good visit but be prepared to take 2 hours to walk through, that is if you like that kind of history. Then head out to Becker Vineyards for some wine tasting...might as well get them interested in the TX grown varietals.

We had a great time. Hit Pederneles falls, LBJ Ranch, WWII museum, Enchanted Rock and Luckenbach. Thanks for all the tips.

Stayed in a WONDERFUL guest house. Just 4 miles outside of Fredericksburg, close to town but far enough away that the kids were able to run around outside. It even came with a very friendly outdoor cat named Annie. We sat on the porch, listeneed to wild turkeys in the distance and looked at the stars. We were also able to use their grill to cook steak one night. Very cool.
