Thought I would post a few pics (I could post probably 300) from my trip this winter. Thanks for the help and advice when I was planning it. Hope you enjoy the pics

thanks for posting - we honeymooned in Jackson over a winter many years ago. Spent a day in Yellowstone & you brought back some memories.

We were there in mid january.

Just got really really really lucky with the wolves. The pack in the area was trailing something and they came close enough for me to get some reasonable shots with my camera lense (the lense is really nothing spectacular they were just EXTREMELY close). Had no care that I was there, just kept following the scent trail. The guide that was with us had spent 6 previous winters in the park and had never been that close. Like I said... REALLY lucky.

Amazing pictures! I am jealous.

(on a side note if this were the General Board I would post a derivative thread of "My winter in Yellowsnow" but I will refrain)

Were the wolf pictures taken in the Lamar Valley or another part of the park? You should share those pictures with the NPS. The ones of the wolves would probalbly be displayed on the Yellowstone site.

they were in the Lamar Valley. Do you really think the NPS would be interested? I was kinda jealous of the people sitting up on their little hills all day with $5,000+ telephoto lenses and assumed their pictures were way better then mine.

On a side note, on my final day we headed back down the valley and I watched my own Natl Geo. special through the spotting scope as I three wolves defended a kill site from coyotes (it didn't go well for the yotes). I only wish I had to equipment to take those pictures. None the less it was fascinating to watch and kinda funny since people that passed us either didn't see, or didn't realize what we were watching. Granted it was probably close to 600 yards out.

Earlier this year I posted a thread about my family wanting to spend next Christmas in Yellowstone. Several people responded with the name of a tour group out of West Yellowstone that did snow coache and snowmobile tours. I thought I had bookmarked the website, but I hadn't, and I can't remember.

Also, our first preference was to stay at the Snow Lodge near Old Faithful, but it is booked, as are all of the other park lodging choices. Does anyone no if the tour companies book these lodges for their clients? In other words, would it be possible to book a room at the Snow Lodge through one of these outfits rather than directly?

Thanks for the help.

Just saw this thread. Absolutely amazing. I would love to see wolves and they look beautiful in the snow. I also want to see buffalo covered in snow. When I was in yellowstone in the winter, it was dry and the buffalo were just covered in dust.

We're going for Christmas; we'll leave SA on 12/23 and return on 12/29. Staying at the Snowlodge near Old Faithful. I got a 500mm lense recently, just for this trip. I'm not sure that my skill are worth of it, but I'll practice between now and then.

I have always used Yellowstone Tour and Travel out of West Yellowstone Mont.
I found myself wondering who Taylorag used?
