Awesome... it was too much effort to do conference only since the big XII has only posted the "Conference Only" Stats since 2004 or so...
It'd be a pain in the ass to calculate who lead the conference in each category for each season based solely on conference stats since they aren't calculated for like 3 years of the scope I was going for. To do it you would have to do all the calculations yourself (I do about 35-40% of these calculations myself)... It'd take like a week straight to do it, unless you've found a website that has this published already.

The Big 12 website has them back to '02 but you have to d/l the PDF version. That's where I'm getting it from.
I like the idea. From what I'm seeing so far we have come a long way, particularly on the defensive side of the ball and on special teams.

How was the quality of our opponents in 2002 vs 2006?
I seem to recall Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, a much stronger itt and osu.
Stats are improving...drip........drip............drip

you cant compare the actual numbers, only the rankings, because there have been rule changes that change the stats
|
SpreadsheetAg
   | posted 9:25a, 01/16/07

Yeah I know, but really the rule changes hurt the offense and help the defense (in all likelihood).
So if our offense is better in 2006 than it was in 2002, it probably means it is even MORE so...
If our defense is better in 2006 than it was in 2002, it probably means it is on par or maybe worse still than it was in 2002...
The rankings pretty much indicate this as well...

It will be interesting to see if Darnell can continue to improve the D past 2002. To do that, I think he is gonna have to get more aggressive.

Ok, I finished up with it. Sorry it took so long....I typed it all out then noticed a small error and then, while correctign that small error, realized that I had it all jumbled up and I had to redo the whole thing.
I didn't know how to make it as fancy as Strongbad so I just did it in a chart form. It is too difficult to post it on here so I just included it in my Season Recap (is there any way we can get some sort of table posting ability on here? Is that physically possible?) on my website.

 Good Stuff AgRyan04!
Looking at it, we are about on par with 2002 (with room for improvement), but we are pretty solid compared to the defense that RC left with.

So the bottom line is that despite the best efforts of pot bangers, our football team (which is still under Coach Fran) is getting better.
Funny how that works.

I don't know if its fair to take coach Frans best year and compare it to one of RC's worst ... esp if OOC stats are included. In 2002 we went up against Virginia Tech and Pitt ... a bit better than Army and ULaLa.
So our defense finally reached the lofty levels of RC's worst defense in his 14 years as a head coach .... wow.
Now, on the other hand ... 2006 was a good year for us. Regardless of how stat wise we stacked up with this team or that team. Watching the kids on the field showed a tough bunch that fought hard and represented us as fans and as a school well. Why do we need to rehash this RC versus Fran stuff. RC was a great aoch for us for many mnay years but regardless of whether it was right or wrong, the choice was made to go in a different direction after the 2002 season.
And, regardless of our personal opinion, coach Fran is our coach and will be in September when we take the field. Let's see what he and these kids can do. There is no need for "pot-banging" in March ... and I say this as a quasi pot banger. We have a good group of kids and a chance to have a special season ... lets just enjoy what we do have to enjoy in this bunch and save the other stuff until we actually play a game in 2007.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." The words of Jesus; John 16:33

Using the... righting the ship analogy...
He spent the last 4 years plugging the holes on the hull and making sure the ballast tanks were air-tight.
Now he's got the tugs turning it over and be pumping the tanks full of air to raise the ship out of the water... This spring and august he'll be installing the new EMD 24 cylinders.

The big thing I see is improvement! Small steps, but it is improvement. We have taken several small steps, now is the time to take the big leap. Can't lose another bowl and have to win against the south! Continuing to lose 2 of 3 to Tech, OU and t.u. will not cut it.
All in all though it appears that Fran may have this team at the point of making that jump and if the do and succeed then we will all rejoice, if they jump and fall then TexAgs will be a darn noisy place with all the pots out!
BTHO Everyone Coach Fran and Team!
