Shamelessly self promoting - i predicted this 8 days ago (12/4)!!!!

Ok I won't say I know this for sure, but I am speculating a bit that Todd Dodge will end up being named the replacement for Dickey at UNT (University of North Texas).

For those of you who may be unaware, Dodge the former tu QB is the head coach at Southlake Carroll high school that has won soemthing crazy like 42 of their last 43 games or something like that and several state titles, in fact I think their only loss the last 4 seasons was a state final game. They are a top ranked high school regularly and actually #1 in the nation the last 2 years - considered that anyway. Currently his son is the QB and is a junior. He coached Chase Daniel who is now at Mizzou among others.

I think he would be a good fit there and they would like his system which would be popular for fans and possible recruits from the area. He also was an assistant there at one time. He has in previous years denied an interest in stepping back up to college, but this year his tune has changed and he has indicated he would be interested even if it meant missing his sons SR year at Southlake (see link)

http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/colleges/16008301.htm

I really believe this would also be smart on UNTs part - like a Danny Manning 2 for 1 deal. After Danny's junior year Kansas hired his dad as an assistant coach and Danny moved to Lawrence and finished high school there and of course went there and won a national title for them. I think landing Dodge would mean you would most likely get his son not to mention other possible SLC recruits if you wanted them. I'm not saying it would make UNT a powerhouse or anything but it would be a step up for them possibly and help in name recognition and recruiting. Believe me Dodge's name is well known throughout the state now because of his SLC history and high school kids know who he is and would love to play for him. It could be a really good move on their part.

I think it has not happened yet because SLC is still playing fo a few more weeks of course, but UNT currently seems in no hurry. Watch that change right after SLC finishes their season.

I expect it to happen. Anyone agree?

If that's true it will be interesting to see how much that will affect the Dragons. I've seen them play in playoff games a couple of times in Texas Stadium and they are unreal. Everytime I watch them I get the feeling they know exactly what is going to happen and are determined to do just enough to win. Good info, we'll see how it pans out.

Not sure why he would make the change- he has better facilities at SLC, has complete control over what happens there, and does an excellent job. SLC could beat some lower level NCAA schools.

I would make a much larger bet that Darrell Dickey somehow ends up on the A&M staff next year.

I don't see any reason why Dodge should take that job.

Not a chance he'd go to UNT.

Like I have said a couple of times, watch for Dodge to join the tu coaching staff once his son graduates from SLC.

Hilarious because its true.

Dodge won't leave for N. Texas. He's could go straight to a mid-level school (think Texas Tech level) or a big time school as offensive coordinator.. And then make the jump to a big time school as head coach..

Oh, and there's nothing aggiegrantish about the post.

You just have idle speculation.

Dodge was previously OC for UNT, I dont see him going to Mizzou however. He may go to UNT if the deal is the right one. If not I can see him waiting another yr and coach his son his senior yr. If he turns down a UNT head job, and continues to win at SLC.. he'll get a better OC job elsewhere.

Actually Dodge to ttech makes a lot of sense with the offense that is in place there and the recruits for that style. Of course that would prove me wrong, partly at least.

I really believe Dodge might go this year, what else does he have to prove at HS level? And if he goes this year its likely a 2 for 1 deal getting Riley as QB recruit next year.

Part of the reason I think UNT is because Dodge does not even have to leave the DFW area and Riley can finish at SLC. Tech would be a move. Plus he has some ties to there previously. I don't see him going to ut except as an OC and Davis is still there for now. I could see that happening next year though after riley graduates possible.

Yes its speculation not an aggiegrantish proclamation......but you all thought it was nonsense at the time.

UNT is a possibility. No top tier one school will take him as HC (and even OC is a stretch for a HS coach).

But UNT must take a chance, and he may be a nice fit.

if he did go to UNT, how many years do you think it would take them to beat their perennial OOC opponent: t.u. ?

He would probably have to take a pay cut to go to unt. If GD leaves tu, I could see him going there as the OC.

What is with this paycut business?

UNT will at least double his salary and he will have more incentives I am sure.

I have heard different stories about his relationship with Texas. His career did not end well there, but most is speculation.

UNT, maybe.
I read earlier this year that Coach Dodge went to Missouri this year and taught his offense to the MU coaching staff before Daniel got there.

I'm sure he has been offered jobs elsewhere, I think he has waited for his son to finish high school. I say he will be the OC or QB coach for where ever his son goes. Probably a big 12 program. Maybe Missouri. Maybe tech if Leach heads to miami.

From what I've heard, Dodge has all but publicly announced that he is not leaving until atleast Riley graduates.

I doubt Dodge would leave for UNT. Texas Tech, on the other hand...

Boy that would suck.

He turned my own Carrollton Newman Smith around. The man might be another BCG...

the pigs were suckin it up on O until they hired Gus Malzahn this year.

quote:
Renowned Arkansas high school football coach Gus Malzahn joined Arkansas’ staff on Dec. 9, 2005, as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. He joined the staff following an impressive five-year run at Springdale High School capped by one of the most dominant seasons by any school in 2005.

His squad at Springdale last year went 14-0, won the state’s Class 5A championship, outscored its opponents 664-118, including a 54-20 victory over West Memphis in the state championship game, and was consistently ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation. Included on the championship team were Razorback freshmen Ben Cleveland, Mitch Mustain, Andrew Norman and Damian Williams.

And to follow it up with the other part of the prediction, i expect Riley Dodge to commit to UNT before too long (he is a junior though).

Its a Danny manning 2 for 1 deal - KU hired his dad as a KU assistant when Danny was a junior.

It'll happen.
