The only ones that ever went to those were E-2 members. I know, I know, tradition and all, but it's only a dog.

Thought I heard yesterday it just want going to be a military style funeral. Still a funeral though with the whole Corps.

"As a veteran, as one who has presided over many military funerals, I do not think taps or a 21-gun salute is appropriate," said Commandant Joe Ramirez Jr., a retired brigadier general who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. "She is a school mascot. She is not a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine who died in defense for our country."

Seriously, when will this ***hole be gone? I am sick of him being a poosay on everything. He was on staffs his whole career, so I shouldn't be surprised, but God **** it I want him gone.

Joe Ramirez, killing the Corps since ever

Did a three-year-old write the article?

Reveille is the only Corps member who bears the mark of a five-star general...

I thought the whole "soldier" thing was interesting, considering 95% of the students honored at Silver Taps in recent decades were never in the Corps, much less the military.

Not a Corps person, so I don’t know anything about Ramirez… but it sounds like he doesn’t get it (confusing since he is an Ag). That is a bad decision. I hope Rev’s outfit goes against him.

Probably, since Rev is the only cadet general in all of college ROTC and Ramirez was in the Army, not the Marine Corps.

But ST was a tradition that started when every student was in the corps and at least training to go into the military. We just included everyone in that tradition once the school changed.

I agree with the commandant (it pains me to say that), it's over the top for a mascot.

I like our mascot and the history and tradition that surrounds lady rev.

but a 21 gun salute and taps is a bit much for a dog. unless it was an actual combat service dog.

We consider her an important part of campus, so I have never had a problem with this practice. If you take the commandant's stance, perhaps, she shouldn't even have a funeral service. I mean, A&M doesn't officially hold one for all students, and people > dogs.

It's a dog. Did she go overseas to fight in any wars?

I don't see this as the same at all. Giving undeserved military honors to a dog is not the same as a memorial service for a beloved mascot that will be interred on campus.

It's not just for Rev. She holds the rank she does and has always been given the honors she has as a thank you from the DoD for A&M's service in WWII. It's an honor she's given as thanks for the service of A&M and the sacrifice of fellow Aggies, so we shouldn't just shrug it off and say, "She's just a dog."
The Collective

Well, our cadets and administration felt the first Rev was important enough to honor her memory in such a manner. Were they misguided? I guess they just didn’t have any perspective on the sacrifice of actual soldiers, and went through with the sham of the first Rev’s funeral.

I find it belittling and disrespectful to people who have actually died in combat to bestow this on a dog, even if you really really like that dog.

Also, hi, its a ****ing dog

I remember as fish they made us have a pet cockroach. When it died later that week, even though we knew we'd get smoked, we went and did a funeral on Duncan Drill Field. Lit that box on fire and everything. Pissheads were all screaming at us as we silently marched out of the dorm, cause they couldnt figure out what was going on. (I had one later admit after dropping handles it was one of the prouder moments they had of our lazy GM winning asses)

Hopefully some current cadets are willing to pull out a bit more for the actual school mascot.

I get what you are saying, Ragnar, but they buried the first Rev in 1944. I’m sure Aggies understood the meaning of sacrifice, but yet this wasn’t considered demeaning at the time. The procession is not about honoring a dog.

As someone who did military funerals my last 6 months in the Army, I would spit in your face if you asked me to bury a dog the same way I just buried a soldier.

Bad bull!!! Are we going to stop doing 21 gun salutes for civilian students at Silver Taps too? She has marched in more formations and parades than most active duty soldiers do so I think she qualifies as a 'Service' dog!

Let's send the next Rev into battle so we can make this happen. Drop that b*tch into Syria with a gas mask.

Perhaps you should spit in the face of all former students who participated in this over the past 70 years.

Yes, the Bryan Christmas Parade or the rodeo. Give her a silver star for those I guess. Some of you are not looking at this rationally.

I agree with no no military honors. And let's not have silver taps for Aggie students, either. Almost none of them served in the military, and even fewer were in combat. Why give military style salutes to arrogant, dope smoking college students, like some of you here?
