Doesn't that seem low? If a top team really wanted him (USC, etc), 2 million seems like a small penalty to pay. Am I reading this wrong?

You assume he's looking to leave in the first place.

I wish it was higher. Having said that, there is no indication he wants to leave as of now.

Sumlin wouldn't bolt for USC. I can't think of any teams he'd really leave for. Maybe if Nike money whipped him to the tune of 6-7 mil +? Maybe if the top job at Bama came open? That's about all I could entertain, and even then I don't really see it. He's got everything he needs here at A&M, and if he gets us on a couple years of winning he's going to have the money to go along with it. He's a top-15 paid coach right now, and he hasn't really done a ton to show for it (not that I don't think he's a good coach). Sumlin isn't a used car salesman like a lot of these guys- always looking for a few dollars more and a prettier campus before realizing that had it best 3 stops back. He knows what he's got here.

Would like to see the buyout for both parties be the same.

We will keep him happy. He will be here for a long career, IMO.

Are we sure which direction that is? Is that how much A&M owes if we fire him, how much another school owes if they take him or do we know these are the same?

Obviously the buyout is not as high as A&M would have liked.
KDS had most of the leverage so it is not surprising the buyout is low

This won't be his last contract he signs at A&M. All is well
