Another reason why Sumlin, IMO, gets at least $3M/yr.

Was discussed on TxAgs radio within the last week or so. Haven't seen it on any threads to date. Thanks for the info.

I heard they were offering something in the Cam Newton range, too. Good thing A&M stepped up and gave him a raise.

Why does this surprise you OP? He was the most successful Year 1 coach in the SEC in a looooooooooooooooooooong time....of course he is going to be on every major college program's calling list.

Hopefully we are doing all the right things to secure Coach Sumlin, but the TAMU job > > Auburn job!

Where on this planet would Kevin Sumlin be better off coaching???

This is not a better place. He is going nowhere !

We should have him talk to BCG

They would be stupid not to. Until A&M becomes a "destination" job, we will always have other schools making runs at our coaches.

All it takes is that one coach to be loyal to A&M through its rise. One coach to establish the recruiting, national brand and winning tradition that changes A&M from a "stepping stone" to a destination, retirement job. Hopefully, Sumlin is that coach.

I could see him leaving for the NFL one day, if that was what he wanted to do. I think he's a better fit for college, though. Saban didn't seem to like the NFL all that much.

Actually I think they wanted KK for DBs coach. They liked his work with Johnny.

Maybe I'm looking through maroon colored glasses, but I really think Sumlin considers this a destination job

No coach in the country would leave A&M for Auburn after last season. Their only hope was to money whip him and have us be fools and alienate him somehow. They hired their coach from Arkansas State.

Who was the last Aggie coach or coordinator to leave for the same position somewhere else? It's been over 50 years.

People forget we stole Bama's coach 10 years ago.

if alabama was not facing sanctions for the dubose fiasco, it is doubtful fran would have left bama with the success he was having.

Of course they did. You'd be an idiot to hire someone like Malzahn before at least taking a crack at a coach like Sumlin.

It has also been reported that 3 NFL teams had interest in Sumlin. Any word on which teams?

Let's all think real hard about this...

The Black Coaches Association "grades" every school that searches for a new coach. One of their criteria is that they interview at least on black coach. Now, most other schools have not taken our lead and given the BCA the finger, so they find that they need a black coach to interview.

Can someone please name me a more desirable black coach right now?

Get used to Sumin taking a LOT of interviews.

RC had overtures from many places when he was HC at A&M - I speciafically remember the Arizona Cardinals coming after him and he turned them, and all others down to stay at A&M.

Problem for RC was while they paid him well they didn;t pay his assistants well enough nor did they do anythign with facilities.

That has all changed now.

As long as the admin keeps stepping up I believe sumlin, ala bob Stoops, will continue to turn down overtures from other schools and NFL teams.

What's the point in posting this a month after they hired Malzahn?

Auburn is currently a dumpster fire with the possibility of some serious NCAA investigations coming up. On top of that I very much doubt they could pay Sumlin as much as we could. There are schools that could conceivably steal Sumlin but Auburn is not one of them.

Auburn basically played the 'name your price' game. The Philadelphia Eagles didn't just pursue Sumlin, they made an offer...and offer which he declined.

It's Auburn. What is the number one priority for Auburn football? BEAT BAMA!

Who did that last season? Sumlin. Their fan base would expect nothing less.

Auburn isn't that great a job. Putting aside the facing-Saban-every-year factor, the admin there has had some issues with all of their head football coaches going back to Pat Dye, and the NCAA problems.

Bowden had a confidentiality agreement with his pay-off because he knew things, it is still unclear who had the happier feet, Tuberville, or the admin that tried to better deal him with Petrino in the middle of the night, then Chizik with a losing record at Iowa State, gets hired and fired just two years after a natty.

They aren't easy to please, and if a coach does make them happy, and does what it takes, whatever it takes to make them happy, they'll still turn on him in a matter of months.

I don't believe it. If Auburn tolerated black head coaches, Gene Chizik would've never been hired
