Will A&M trigger the next realignment explosion? -- LINK

Texas A&M's decision to remain in the Big 12 in the summer of 2010 effectively salvaged the conference's life. Will increasing aggression on Texas' part incite the Aggies to upend the next round of dominoes?

Click on the above link for detailed analyst on that subject and more in an article that we released at TexAgs Premium earlier this week but have decided to open it up free to all TexAgs guests.

Thanks!

I look forward to a time when A&M's leaders do not enjoy being in tu's shadow and will actually look out for the best interests of A&M.

We let this happen and it will continue to happen until we have actual leadership.

Good article. It is important for our administration to make a timely decision to severe the limb (Big 12) before the body (TAMU) is critically impacted.

(recent press regarding high school football games featuring at least three Longhorn commitments being played on the new network has reportedly led to several member institutions scrambling to find out whether or not such programming is even within NCAA guidelines)
Do you have any reason to believe this is actually true, or are you just trying to "wag the dog" and prod the institutions into acting?

I.e., who "reported" this?

schizo, the news that brenham HS and Aledo HS would have games on the Longhorn network came out around a week ago. not sure of the original source though

I had heard that news. I just hadn't heard that other schools were looking into the legality of it.

Well-written as usual Billy - thanks for making this free. I wish the rest of us were as confident in A&M brass as you are, but I'm highly skeptical. I think the former decision was a "cave" and there's been no change at the top that shows me that anything's changed.

I suppose, like everyone else, I'll just let them surprise me with spine, but until that happens, I'll watch my school mire further behind the Sips in recruiting and financial strength.

I don't think I've ever seen more interest in a non-story than this. We aren't going to be the first to do anything. We are going to react instead of being proactive just like always. Once you become a 40+ aggie you'll understand how we operate. All you need to do is see years of inaction.

I have complete faith our leadership will continue to fumble

why what that posting says was not intuitively obvious to the most casual observer at the A&M head shed is mind boggling!

NOW you worry about sippieville having a big advantage?!?

What a pile of idiots!!!

Good article. Thanks.

I'm probably like the majority of Ags who didn't watch this issue very closely last year. I realize that for many on TexAgs, the SEC/PAC-12/Big-12-2 story was the hottest of hot-button issues. That said, most Ags outside the "TexAgs Community" that I spoke with were somewhat ambivalent.

Now I say ****-em. Actually, I always did, but in the spirit of competition and burning rivalry.

I want Texas A&M out of the Big-12 and away from their poison as soon as possible.

A&M does not need t.u. t.u. is doing what they think is best for them just as A&M should. A&M would benefit to get away.

Here's a question for our BOR?

Under the same circumstances, what would Sully do?

We have a statue in the middle of campus honoring him because he stood firm for our university in time of crisis.

What would Sul Ross do? Think I will post this in its own thread just to see what peoples responses would be.

I think the article really misses the most important point.

We know Texas can't wait to run off and go independent BUT they can't handle the political firestorm that would come from starting a series of events which would leave Baylor, and possibly Tech, out of a BCS conference. Why makes people think we could do it?

We will absolutely, positively, NEVER break away to the SEC UNLESS someone has an ironclad plan/agreement in place to take care of Baylor and Tech. Without that, we are stuck with the sips.

SEC SEC SEC! We don't need to remain in a conference that by all accounts is doomed to fail. We also don't need to throw away over 100 years of tradition with t.u. Just as we now play Arkansas every year, so too may we continue to play t.u. every year when we are in the SEC. The fact is that we have a significant and positive history with Arkansas, and LSU for that matter. t.u. will all too soon become an independent school like Notre Dame. Fine, so be it. Why don't we join the SEC now and renew our revalries with Arkansas and LSU, continue our rivalry with t.u., and begin setting new traditions in the SEC? Gig 'em!

Why do we need to find a conference for Baylor or Tech? They're both in a BCS conference right now with the sips.

I think that TT and BU are not a situation for our future to deal with.
1) A&M is the first school of Texas. We were not created for the support of Tech nor Baylor.
2) Texas (the largest flagship school in Texas) isn't being held responsible for the fate of either TT or BU.
3) UH, SMU, nor TCU closed their doors when the SWC dissolved. If fact all three have flourished with out the big two flagship schools.
The fact is, neither A&M nor t.u. was created for and are not responsible for the welfare of other universities athletic programs. Each school is responsible for the success or failure of both their academic and athletic programs. This engenders competitiveness, TCU is a great example! I believe that the transition to the SEC would be smooth and welcomed by nearly all concerned. This change is inevitable and should begin sooner rather than later...

We, Georgia, plays Georgia Tech, every year. This is our big OOC game, and is counted on. A&M would, should be able to keep TU on their schedule as an OOC game, and do so without issue. Should TAMU find itself moving to the SEC, then they would only be playing about eight conference games per year, leaving 3 or 4 OOC games to fill. If you have not read the article I posted a link to...you really should take a look at that. There are some hurdles to overcome befor the Ags could/would move to the SEC. All in all, I do think A&M would be welcomed with open arms by the SEC, even if there are some fans that may oppose it, I think there is a majority of fans that would welcome it ( makes for some ready made rivals that way) From what I see on the Ags side....y'all need to quit worrying about the Baylors, TT, and Okie Lites of the world, and worry about A&M....JMO tho.
