We could make our own network, schedule whatever teams we want, and we wouldn't get the terrible Big 12 refs.

How many Aggie refs does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Byrne already blew that when he told Dodds no thanks when Dodds asked if A&M would want to do a joint network with t.u. We aren't in a position right now where it would be profitable on our own, but with t.u. we actually could have had a network. Kind of sad and short sighted on Byrne's part, if you ask me. Why we wouldn't have wanted to ride the coattails of t.u.'s current momentum, I don't know----

Brilliant

I'm sure that we would all love to witness the bidding war for the television rights.

All this conference uncertainty is causing panice throughout the nation's universities. I think Obama and Co. need to step in and nationalize all collegiate sports into one super conference where all money can be redistributed evenly.

I had not heard what ag2003 said before. I think a joint Longhorn/Aggie network would make some sense. Despite what their egos tell them, the horns cannot carry a whole cable channel on their own. I'm skeptical that the both of us could even be viable, but it would be a lot closer to viability.

(Of course, the whole Longhorn Channel baloney is just a bargaining tactic. If there's no Notre Dame channel or Trojan Channel yet, there sure as hell will not be a Longhorn Channel.)

You probably haven't heard about it Mr Stubb, because it probably isn't true. The BB Bashers just love to get their digs in every opportunity they have.

In 49 other states, how many people would watch an Aggie/Longhorn network? Unless you're Notre Dame, independent is not an option.

Dandy,
It's absolutely true.....I have a sip friend that is very close to Dodds and he told me about their plans for the t.u. network last year. He also told me that Dodds had asked Byrne if we would want to join them and do it jointly. I didn't believe my friend, so I asked Byrne himself.

Byrne told me that he was asked by Dodds if we were interested, but right about that time we signed an agreement with a different licensing/marketing firm than t.u., so that killed the idea.

So in the early stages of this, absolutely t.u. wanted to do a joint TV network with us. Byrne turned them down, and now two years or so later, it looks like we could have screwed up. I actually asked my friend last night if Dodds would reconsider if we were to tuck our tail between our legs and ask to be included again.....he said no chance b/c they have already taken all the risk and put in all the investment to get it going......Oh well.

Maybe solicit an anti-tv contract? I could see somebody paying to keep the ags off tv.

You guys laugh, but in 1986-87-88, Jackie Sherrill seriously considered taking A&M out of the SWC and playing as an independent.

Jackie didn't see the value of playing in the weak SWC if A&M wanted to be a national power.

How did that work out for Jackie when he scheduled some national powers in 88?

1988 was before the NCAA's TV deal ended and conferences had to strike their own TV deals. Florida State, Miami & Penn State were independents then, but the TV-induced changes drove them to join conferences.
