If an upper-classmen tranfers out, does that open up another scholarship for us to use this recruiting class? - If so, then I wouldn't mind seeing some certain "upper classmen" go and giving Sherman the opportunity to get more of his guys in the game faster.....just a thought

Which upperclassmen would these be? Could be the reason we are signing so many in this class too.

I listened to Shermans talk to the media a couple days ago. He was very blunt and it sounds like he is not going to put up with a bunch of bull s***.

I think he is looking to clean house and only keep around the ones who show they want to win on and off the field. I like this approach. Seems like there are to many players that just dont care.

I don't think that would sink us at all, if culling some of the rotten wood gives way for us to bring in some young blood than I am all for it.

For this years class I think we are capped at 25, but may be able to bring in mid-termers and attribute them to the last class. I hear one of the young OLs is transferring.

You actually think no other teams have this problem? Winning cures a lot of things and can hide a lot of issues like that, but sometimes to get back to winning you have to get rid of the problems first.

The rules are you can only bring in 25 new scholarship players any year.....that means this signing class is capped at 25, but we will probably sign 25-30 b/c some kids won't qualify and some will enroll in January and count towards last year's class.

After that, the overall number of scholarships on teh team must be 85 or less. We are currently at 64 scholarships with known players returning. So, in order to sign 25-30 this year and get under the 85 scholarship limit, we will need 5-10 current scholarship players to quit, transfer, leave, anything. So it's not a shock that we'll see some above average attrition (Average is 3-6 per year and we'll twice that probably).

Like I said, it's just a rumor at the moment. What I heard was very vague. I don't have any names at the moment, but one could speculate.

As someone said, we are up against the 25 scholly limit right now as is. I don't see how this could clear any room except for some possible JUCOs who would have to enroll before next semester. And as Sherman said in the press conference, he's not big on JUCOs, so I wouldn't expect to take any outside of need positions (OL, DB, DE).

I don't buy the rotten wood theory either. We got the same song and dance from Francis. "Ahhh! We just gotta get rid of the non hackers who don't have what it takes and the attitude problems dividing the locker room and the guys who aren't buying in! Then we'll be rid of the dead weight and we'll win by god!" Riiiight. You guys can buy into this PR parlor trick if y'all want to. As far as I'm concerned it just amounts to re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic if the guy at the top is lost and ramming icebergs, which is the case at A&M.

if they transfer to a d1 scholl they have to sit out a yr. if they transfer to div1aa they can play...atleast thats the way it was way back in my day....

Rivals has us at 26. None of these transfers will affect the recruiting class b/c they are going to max that out regardless.....The thing is, at a minimum the coaches will have to get rid of 5-10 current schoalrship players to make room on the 85 total limit with this class coming in. It's not overly unusual.......hearing that several upperclassmen are transfering is expected and good news. Go to our roster and I'm sure all of you can find 10 upper classmen that have yet to play much at all, and it would be just as good to replace them with a younger player that is tainted by Fran's coaching.

Get rid of that rotten wood and find us some young, hard, strong wood! Wood that can really take a pounding and bow up to pressure.

Why am I not surprised to see you post this. I think you are hoping and praying that the football team has multiple losing seasons just so you can say you were right. You would be absolutely distraught if Sherman actually succeeds.

It's not unusual for a first year coach to clean house. It is unusual for a struggling about-to-be -2nd-year coach to now declare some of the upperclassmen never bought into his plan, despite saying he was going to try to win right away with the players he had already.

I don't blame him if this is something he feels he needs to do, but let's not disguise it. This year was a near complete failure upon Sherman's part and he in no way telegraphed that a 4-8 year was coming. Often, a new coach will let on to the media that his first campaign will likely be rough. Sherman did none of that, and he frankly set up a lot of you Aggies for a lot of disappointment.

It doesn't take a Werner Von Braun to realize we have some guys on scholarship that are simply not Big XII caliber talent. I'm sure many of them try their best. If playing football is important to them I believe they should consider transferring. Should however any of them want to remain at Texas A&M I hope their scholarships are honored.
