Fran to TCU

I think he's going to have a hard time transitioning from the "1-2 real teams a year" conference he's in now.

His recruiting probably won't go up much over what he has at TCU on top of that.

yeah, but TCU competes with major conference progams with the talent they bring in now.

I think he'll do fine at KSU.

Patterson will do fine. I don't think he will set the world on fire, but he will make them a consistant contender in a very inconsistant division.

While I agree he's done a very good job at TCU and should not be discounted at this point, there is a difference between running the gauntlet of a full Big XII schedule and being able to game plan all year for a couple of BCS opponents.

Wow. TCU fans in Ft. Worth are getting kicked in the crotch today. It will be interesting to see who TCU goes after.

Thanks -- that's exactly what I was referring to.

TCU does well against their conference which is not a good conference and then has like 1-2 REAL games OOC per year.

That surprised me that he would take a job as quickly as he has considering the other options that are currently out there and those that might open up after the season. I know he's an K-State grad, but from what I've heard, my in laws are big TCU folks, his wife didn't want to leave Fort Worth, which is why he hadn't taken another job up to this point.

I'm speculating but it's possible that he realized, expecially with the low chance of a BCS game this year, even with a possible 11-1 season before last night, that he had gone as far as he could at TCU.

I think he is a damn good coach and has done quite a bit over his tenure with very little resources and poor support from alumni. TCU is a great place to watch a game but the atmosphere is horrible as far as attendance and exitement is concerned.

Kstate rivals page is saying Patterson's agent is denying it

Patterson is on GAC right now saying he's not been in touch with K State & is angry that this story is out there...

Fact: TCU has done as well any way you slice it. TCU is at or near the top when it comes to making the most of what it has to offer. Maybe another school has done as well or better year in and year out, but I'm not aware of which school(s) that might be.
(Wake Forest of recent times; Ball State currently; Boise State consistently may be in contention for making the most of what they have.)

Patterson staying at TCU
Contrary to recent reports, TCU head coach Gary Patterson is not leaving to go to Kansas State.

I just got done talking with Patterson in his office at TCU, and he said the reports are not true.

"I'm not real happy with people who fire people before the season is over," Patterson said. "And I would be less happy with anybody who would ever talk about taking another job until they finish their own"

I caught the very end of the interview as I was getting into town, so I didn't quite catch too much. This is kinda what I gathered from GAC after the interview:

-Patterson seemed pretty upset about GoPowerCat.com releasing the story claiming that he had been hired as the new HC of K-State. He said it was a cheap way of K-State trying to gain a recruiting edge by making a splash with a "new HC."
-He also seemed to be pretty upset about K-State firing Ron Prince in the middle of the season...

One of Galloway's comments was something along the lines of "Patterson might not even pick up the phone if K-State calls at the end of the season."

He'll do better than Chizik has.

While traditionally this argument could be made, for the last few years it could be argued that the Mountain West is a better conference than the Pac Ten, Big East, and in some ways the Big Ten...all of which carrying BCS affiliations.

Well, we'll see how long this stays shot down. CFB coaches are great at denying the truth when it comes to job moves. It's almost always deny, deny, deny, OK - I've accepted the job.

Does Patterson have the offensive smarts to make it big in the Big 12?

I'm not sure if I was Patterson I would so quick to leave the good setup he has now. TCU is in the MWC. All they have to do is play decent OOC schedule they can win then go beat the hell outta the two Utah teams and goto BCS bowl.

I realize they just lost to Utah because their kicker suxass but they essentially just have a two game season to a BCS bowl almost every year under the current system.

That road is alot harder at KSU. And they already showed that they would a Coach before he can even get his recruits to upperclassman.

I love patterson, but he is so hands off on offense that it hurts the team...he gives the OC 100% responsibility and just wants to win games by 1. Many BCS schools would get tired of this aspect(as some TCU fans have). TCU should have had 2 more attempts at field goals, but instead we took two 15 yard sacks...

I think we would ALL like to see Patterson in a setting with a colder climate.

I hope the story is not true. I really don't want another good coach in the Big12. We have enough already. And we don't need another that can recruit north texas.

I have watched tcu against byu and utah. and I don't know what drills tcu coaches for tackling, but they rarely miss tackles.

Doe anyone have the video of Rocky chasing and catching the chicken? It reminds me of that.

Anyways, she told me Patterson just accepted the K-State job. She was having to work on some paper work for him. She does payroll for the entire university. About an hour after she called me he was denying reports. Obviously it's a done deal. They were signing his check today which was his last I think
